Price of silver jewelry in Mexico

How much does everyone pay when buying silver jewelry while on holiday in Mexico? puerto vallarta, Cancun, riviera maya.
I understand that it is sold by the gram.
The current spot price of silver is 10 pesos per gram.
Skilled Mexican silver smiths get paid $800 CAD per month ($4.50cad or 65 Pesos per hour based on a 48 hour work week). It takes a few hours to make a ring or bracelet. Obviously more intricate items take longer. On this basis I think adding 50% to the spot price will be a generous value of the item.
This means 15 Pesos per gram is about how much items should cost. Anything above this number is going to the middle man/seller.

So those are the facts. The reality of the price on the street and stores/beaches is likely to be higher. Would love to hear some real purchase prices (and dates to account for spot price as required).

Not sure where you are going with this post
Sounds an awful lot like a PSA

When it comes to jewellery costing can be all over the place

It’s not necessarily like buying silver by the gram / ingot
Design of the piece
Quality of workmanship
Including the silver itself comes into play

Personally, we shop in Mexico the same way we shop anywhere else
We make an educated decision based on the item before us, and what we feel it is worth for us to buy

Have definitely gotten some nice artisan pieces in Mexico (not just jewellery)
For what we considered good value
That also make nice souvenirs with a certain bit of sentimental charm to them
SO got a silver & turquoise pendant, and it always takes her back to that great vacation when worn
It wasn’t expensive compared to here
But to the wearer it’s priceless

On location right now.
The flash jewellery stores are asking in the $150 peso to $180 peso range.
The market stores are in the 50 to 80 peso range.
Neither price is a deal.

I don’t find jewellery overall being that much cheaper in Mexico. I’ve heard a lot of stories of people mistakenly purchasing ‘fakes’. I would probably make sure to shop at a recognized store/brand.

The only place in the world where I’ve ever found attractive pricing for jewellery (gold / diamonds) is in Dubai.

We found some great deals in Thailand for rubies. Paid around $400 for a ring with a large ruby and two small diamonds. Appraisal in canada came back at $2k.

Agree that mexico is not the deal it used to be for silver. Mainly due to baby boomer Americans paying whatever is asked
