[Primecables.ca] Electric Standing Desk Dual Motor at Primecables $297.49

Seems like the best value deal for a standing desk out there. Just ordered one. It's $297.49 for the dual motor version with a free anti fatigue mat. If you use the code PCMD10, you get a further 10% off that comes down to $267 ish.. considering even the single motor one goes around that price, you are getting this with dual motor and free anti fatigue mat and also a free gift which you can get a usb charger.

Too bad they don't make models for L shaped desks.
Pourquoi pas?

Ikea tabletops are a favourite, and they also have pretty affordable wood kitchen countertops that also work great as desks.
My tip is to head to Ikea and see if they have any overstock/clearance deals on kitchen counters. I managed to pick up my 6' long Karlby countertop a year ago for 60$ on clearance.
For more info on how to DIY this setup, you can refer to this article, or just google "Ikea butcher block desk" for more inspiration images: http://www.instructables.com/id/Butcher ... IKEA-hack/

In other news, I've been researching sit stand desks for several months, but there is still very little info/reviews regarding the quality of this desk frame. From what I understand, PrimeCables imports these in from a Chinese company called Lumi Legend Corp, which is what the US company Vivo does as well. The PrimeCables/Lumi/Vivo desks seem to share the same electronics, but have slightly different frame designs. Nonetheless, the performance might all be comparable is my best guess.

For comparison, here's the other desks that are by the same manufacturer, and are probably very close in specs/design
(Lumi M02-23R): https://www.lumi.cn/en/lumi-ergo/sit-st ... sk/m02-23r
(Vivo 103E): https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Management- ... B073K1JSW7
A rather critical review of the Vivo 103E. Note that BTOD are the manufacturers of the VertDesk v3, so it might be a little biased : https://www.btod.com/blog/2017/08/15/vi ... sk-review/

Thanks, how hard/easy is it to drill the hole onto the table top?

The thought of completely ruining the table top if I happen to mess up one hole is quite frightening.

Really easy, the karlby is not a solid wood countertop, the top and sides are 1/8" real wood laminate, and the bottom is particleboard covered a layer of matte black foil. This means no matter how many times you drill into your table, you'll never flip/ruin the top of the desk

I believe you can just place it on top of the riser without drilling and lot of people seems to be fine with that.

Definitely drill that in, you don't want it to be wobbly, way too dangerous.

If you want to get crafty, I've seen people make desktops out of the large Ikea cabinet doors from the As-Is clearance section! The last time I visited the Ikea As-Is in Etobicoke, they had numerous tabletops/wood surfaces that were perfectly fine for 25-35$.
EDIT: Any deals on kitchen countertops vary from store to store - I talked with an Ikea kitchen rep on the showroom floor, and they had several styles that were marked for clearance.

You're right - my current ikea countertop just sits on top of trestle legs, no drilling required. I think the sit-stand desk frame would require drilling however.

My company has this type of desk for the entire office from our top to bottom floors.

It's definitely changed the way I work as I'm not forced to sit all day long in my office. It's particularly useful after lunch when that mid afternoon wave of fatigue hits. By standing I don't doze off at my desk, at all! lol
