on early (or late) ice a spud is your best friend. well maybe besides a rope tied off to a tree on shore. or a fatter guy walking in front of you

It does rely on some intelligence to ensure proper ice conditions.sks8100 wrote: ↑ Stop being so dramatic. Stick to the context here. The ice pick is really a spud bar.SaltyPlans wrote: ↑ How do you test or tell the thickness of ice?

I don't know about this particular model but most other ice tents are not rain proof. They will leak at the seams when it rains.sonyminidiscman wrote: ↑ Maybe use this as a temp shed to hold my summer stuff in the backyard lol

I imagine firepits are dangerous in small enclosed spaces. There's only so much oxygen. And CO is dangerous.

It's a good idea to carry some Ice Claws to help you self-rescue if you happen to go in. In can be very difficult to pull yourself out of the water on to the ice. Devices like these can help: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_claws

Its' almost exactly 6' x 6' at the base, and a bit wider at mid-height as the walls bow out. It's maybe 5' high, not exactly sure. The 2' x 2' anti-fatigue floor tiles work good, so 2 packs of 4 will cover all except one square (For me right by the door, but if you were ice fishing I guess the center.) I used a portable buddy heater to heat it, worked well. I've seen videos of tests of these with a CO meter and not emitted significant amounts (as they are a catalytic heater). I don't have any idea if it would last months, but I can't see it holding much of a snow load at all (like maybe 20lbs pressure to collapse the roof, as you do when you fold it up.).

you still dress for ice fishing if you didn't have a hut. i would use it as a wind breaker myself and you can use a little lantern to heat that up, we do that even for regular camping when going to bed, keeps us warm.MagicSnail wrote: ↑ How do you stay warm in something like this?

With a portable heater like this, also on sale at Princess Auto. Uses 1lb propane bottles or 20lb tank with an adapter hose. A heater like this would get that tent toasty warm in cold weatherMagicSnail wrote: ↑ How do you stay warm in something like this?
