[Princess Auto] 4AA LED motion-detector strip $7.99

Princess auto has so many good deals that it's nearly impossible to report on all of them,
much less to even keep up with them.

I tend to concentrate mostly on items which interest me: electronics and LED lights (which
PA has tons of). Also, items which I acquire and have a chance to test out, or at least look
at in-store and evaluate quality, usefulness, features etc.

To start:

4AA-powered motion sensing LED strip light for $7.99, on sale until Nov. 8 (today).

https://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/ ... -p8954307e

Light brightness/tint is good, one brightness level (high), Motion detection works well.
On-time is about 30 seconds. Small slide switch on the end selects ON/OFF/AUTO(detect) but
not the most convenient.

I've had one open, no surprises. Build quality good, except two small (strong) disk magnets
attached to the back came off, but easily fixed with a few drops of super-glue.

Light is attached to steel post in basement and has worked well over the past week.

Based on current drain, AAs should provide 4-5 hours overall run-time. I also measured standby
current at about 0.02mA (20 microamps) which is good; some products with PIR sensors or IR
remotes run much higher which can run batteries down faster.

Nicely detailed post DaveOtt, thank you. Aside from the magnets, does this have any mounting holes on the back? Thinking of mounting this close to my front door under our deck overhang but it's all wood there, nothing magnetic.
Basil: Well, may I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically -?

Think this would work well for a closet/wardrobe to provide some light?

There is 2 really small holes that can fit a really small screw/nail to hold it in place.

Has a white-ish blue so in the 5000k-6000k range.

If it's covered mabey, it's not water resistant at all.

Yes, bought it for kitchen inside cabinet light, works great, I used velcro to be able to remove it to change the batteries.

Hopefully this product is available post-sale at regular price $12 which some people may
not mind paying; and it could go on sale later.

Tint strikes me as more toward neutral, neither warm or super-cool. Stated brightness is 250 lumens
so not super-bright, will do a good job in closets, sheds, even small rooms or parts of basement etc.

I concur with "li442il", not designed for outdoor use.

Package includes small steel disks with foam-tape backing for mounting to flat surface, using light's
magnets; or as mentioned earlier, two mounting holes/slots.

Detect range is good up to about 15 feet.

Still running with AA NiMH, may check later alkaline low-voltage behaviour. Cells may last >4-5 hours
but at lower brightness, depends where the practical cutoff occurs.

Back to regular price $11.99. Light in basement still working fine on original charge of batteries (NiMH 2000mAh).
