[Princess Auto] 600 Lumen LED Rechargeable Magnetic Slim Work Light $9.99

Image

Princess Auto has the Rechargeable 600 Lumen Slim LED Work Lights for $9.99.
Not lava hot by any means, but unlike most of their clearance deals, you might actually be able to buy one of these in a store. These would be more for emergency or occasional use, IMO. Definitely not professional grade, but better than expected.

The good: Thin. Rechargeable. Variable Intensity. Bright, Run time 3-14 Hours Hanging Hook, Magnetic Base with some tilt.
The bad: Not rubberized and may be prone to fall damage, Not Waterproof, USB charging cable only.

7/19 Still some stock and price continued, but no clearance discount so far.

I would give my life to protect your right to say something really funking stupid.

Respect your OP's. They don't get paid to do this, and don't have to come here to post their deals for you. They can all just hoard their deals in silence, if you prefer?

These are great, especially for $10

Downside is the magnet is weak

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe there is some variabilty in the magnets or it depends on the metal, because mine is strong. It took me both hands to get it off my stove top.

Battery life seems much better than estimated. I tried it at moderate power approx. 1/4 setting and it is over 7 hours and still going.
That might make this usable as an emergency/camping light too, since it is light, low profile and chargeable from a USB or 12v source.

Can anyone recommend one that can withstand a few bumps? I have tried a few that all work well, but the occasional 3-foot drop onto a solid floor usually does them in by the first or second tumble.

These might be an option if you are looking for something more durable. Lower power, smaller and not rechargeable though, but a 2 pack for $28, and their Costco satisfaction guaranteed return policy should apply, I believe.

Edit: Maybe they are rechargeable. It says includes 3 AAA batteries, but one review says they charge with a USB. So maybe 3 AAA rechargeables are included?

Thanks. At first I thought it would be too small, but 175 lumens is quite impressive if accurate. I do prefer AA/AAA batteries over an internal rechargeable battery as well. Being smaller and lighter weight would probably factor in to its ability to not be damaged if dropped too.

I am revising my battery life results, again. I am actually shocked, this thing just passed 14 hours at approx. 1/4 intensity, so maybe 150 Lumens, and it is still going. Gotta guess that full power would be 3-4 hours at least, but setting might not be directly proportional to efficiency.

So this thing started to dim a bit near 17 hours on time, and would likely have cut out soon after.
I guess they were being truthful about having Lithium Ion batteries in it.

Bought one of these months ago for $10 as well - I'm a fan. Good for getting into tight spaces where my larger lights don't fit. Wheel wells, brakes, engine bay. Love the magnetic base, swivel base and top hook. Haven't tested the battery runtime but I don't charge it often let's just say that. I prefer the rechargeable USB style lights. Hopefully in a few years there's a USB C model for $10. Minor complaint is the USB port is slightly misaligned with the plastic housing cutout. About 1mm off or so makes connecting the cable ever so slightly annoying. Anyone else have that problem? Might just widen the opening instead of complaining and forget that issue exists

Thanks for the feedback.

Funny that you mentioned the USB.
I did have that same issue. It just seems ever so slightly misaligned. It goes in tightly, but I needed to do it visually. (insert joke here)☺
with a little more attention.

One thing good it seems - the light can be taken apart and repaired/battery replaced as one reviewer on the PA website was able to take apart theirs and resolder some wires after a drop. Might be worth doing a bit of preventive maintenance and modify the connection as another reviewer stated that they had multiple failures after a drop - might be the same weak spot.

Amazing light , totally worth $10. Icing on the cake is the thumb dial for intensity.. bought 5 of them, as for the batterie it takes a standard 18650, so that alone is worth $5

Thanks for the details guys.
The variable intensity sold me too. There are jobs where you don't need super bright light and it is actually a detriment. Better to be able to balance brightness and longevity for each job.
I got around 3 Hours on a max brightness test, BTW.

It’s a special buy, so normally not stocked.. if you want one, I would suggest getting it sooner than later since the sale is over July 18

I've got some experience with cheap lights running on 18650's. Chances are, the light's 18650 battery isn't worth $5 nor will it hold 2000 mAh as listed on the battery. For most of these cheaper lights, the battery is lucky to hold 1/2 the amount listed on the label according to a full charge and discharge test I've done on them (must have been 50 batteries from various cheap light suppliers).

I would even go as far to say that some of the 18650's supplied can be a fire hazard as they get really hot when charging. My advice would be to try charging the battery with the cover off and see how hot the battery gets. The battery should get warm under moderate charging conditions. The battery should never get hot to the touch when charging. If it does, I would swap out the battery with one that works and then dispose of the other battery quickly.
