Tons of videos online, this is a very good video using a "NO PRE-CHILL" method:

I thought it was dangerous to do so.

If you work for Coleman it's super duper dangerous.

I personally replace them after 3-5 refills

I think it's relatively safe. The most important thing is to not to add more than 1lb of propane, I fill to around 12 oz to keep it safe.

From the horse's mouth:

"This portable radiant heater heats outdoor spaces up to 225 sq. ft. Features Piezo electric ignition. Connects to 1 or 20 lb tanks. Durable plastic and steel construction."

"Heat outdoor"?

(Over)filling 1 pounder is dangerous so why not use the 20lb-er?

A 20lb tank requires a special hose to connect and is less portable

In the USA and other countries Mr Heater markets these as the "Indoor Safe Portable Radiant Heaters", so I'm guessing it has something to do with Canadian safety regulations. I would have no issue using these indoors during an emergency situation and decent ventilation. Ideal for an ice shack, tent or RV

This thing is next to useless outdoors imo. If you're sitting directly in front of it, it'll pass as a heater.

I use it in conjunction with an electric 1500watt unit to heat up the garage during winter time when I need to work on the car. It doesnt put out much heat. Unless you're in a fishing hut or a inside a tent, I find it's use lacking. Where do most of you use this?

The purpose is for you to be sitting in front of it, like a tent/shed heater

I use mine with a 20 lb tank inside my 260 squ. ft. cabin over the water. It heats the cabin up so much we always have a window wide open. We also us a Co2 detector and it never goes off.
The hose is 12 feet long therefore the tank is a long ways away from the building. Most of the time we run it at its 1/2 point of Low operating setting. The propane lasts for weeks.
We have decided to go with a diesel heater which will be permanent in the cabin. That way we can control the heat better and get some great range out of it. Great heater.
