Ummm, question. Someone on an earlier thread for this kit astutely noted that the battery is not a Lithium+ or HC, but rather the older Lithium series. How much does that take away from the desirability of it, as it's the older version of the 4.0Ah?

That's just ryobi marketing. The P197 "regular" battery is functionally identical to the P108 "HP" battery. They both have an extra contact point for brushless tools that enable higher performance.

That extra pin is useless on brushed tools, but higher capacity batteries still offer more amperage as brushed tools basically operate at full tilt all the time.

If you want to see a head to head comparison of the batteries. Spoiler: the results are mixed so the batteries are equal due to randomness in the wood grain.

Extra tech info: The P197 uses Sony VTC4 cells & the P108 uses Samsung 20Q cells (near the end of each pdf). Both are 2000mah high discharge designs.

VTC4 actually tests better than the 20Q under high loads, mooch gives it a 23A rating vs 15A 20Q.

So the P197 does provide a shade more power, which would likely make all the diff in a tool like the Impact Wrench.

In theory the VTC4 cells the P197 is capable of providing higher peak amperage which makes the black regular battery that came with the impact wrench better than the "HP" grey battery. But as seen in the real world testing video, it's a toss up when used in the brushless drill & impact driver.
