[Princess Auto] Meguiar's Cleaning and Detailing Products 20-40% Off

New Princess Auto Flyer - Sale starts March 29 and runs until April 10.
Meguiar's Cleaning and Detailing Products 20-40% Off

I can vouch for the Meguiar's ScratchX product - I have a black 2018 Mazda Miata and the clearcoat shows every blemish and hairline scratch. I used the product successfully to eliminate several minor (but noticeable in bright sunlight) scratches in the clearcoat.

I agree that Maguire's should be good for most of DIYers, but what I found out is pad matters more than compound. and you need to have a few pads & a few compounds to find the right set for your car. I wasted my time doing my car, Meguiar's compound/lake country orange pad and Meguiar's Polish/Lake country white pad. I removed a few scratches maybe, but no matter how many paths I go, some scratches don't go away. and micro scratches. I had to buy more variants - harder cuts, tougher compounds to make it work.

BTW inflation makes it look like a not sale, I think I bought them cheaper at Walmart last year, compound wheel shiner and stuff.

can anyone speak to whether the Meguiar's ceramic products will work with/on-top of the Turtle Wax products?

(edit - time goes by way too quickly)
Personally I do the base with the turtle wax hybrid ceramic spray ( lasts about 2-3 months) then during maintenance washes every 1-2 weeks use title wax seal and shine... The gloss is unworldly. Best part is they're both so easy to apply. Try it out!

I find meguiars ultimate line up to give me the best shine on my metallic blue paint. The compound is not the most aggressive but takes out 80% of swirls and light scratches, the polish cleans up any micro-defects left, and then the ultimate liquid wax puts a crazy deep shine on the whole car. The compound at the price of $10 isn't a terrible deal but I have seen it at $8 or $9 other times in the year at walmart or Canadian Tire.

I do a 3-step myself with a dual action polisher once a year typically in late april or early may. It takes me about 4 hours, but i prefer doing myself rather than paying $500 for a wash + 3-step from a business. Number of pads is very important - once the pad gets clogged up (after 2 panels at most) its ability to remove defects is quite limited. Also if it is too humid outside it is very difficult to wipe off the compound/polish residue so keep that in mind. Finally, make sure you have enough microfiber towels!

Regarding turtle wax HCSS and SNS - I have used both and find them to be excellent 'waxes' or sealants - they are great for a top coat on a car but won't hide swirls or scratches if you have a lot of those in your paint.

Aggressive compounds or even a mild compound like scratch x coupled with a cutting pad will create micro marring. It's just the nature of the products. Anytime you have a more aggressive cutting action (yellow and orange), be it the pad or compound, you will need to follow it up with a lighter compound/pad. I generally finish most of my cutting jobs with Meguiar's 83 on a white pad (mild cutting/polishing pad) on my rotary.

Here's another goocher. The micro marring can also be caused by your microfiber cloth you use to remove the compounds. I had this happen while working on a BMW. Did my paint correction and clean up of the final polish. With the final polish I used my usual soft mf for waxes...instant install of micro marring....on black! Luckily I noticed it on one panel and fixed it up but I ended up switching out to two other mf cloths before I found one that did not marr the clear. These mf cloths aren't the cheap variety either.

Best products on that list is the Ultimate tire and wheel cleaner, has iron X qualities so can be used on the paint to do a iron x/fallout decontamination fairly large bottle so enough to do a vehicle. And the Ceramic detailer, I use it as a topper after every wash produces deep gloss and tight water beading and has some durability also fairly large bottle so lasts a long time. Probably two of the best Meguiar's products in their consumer lineup everything else on sale is meh.

What’s the difference between the two car wash products (the first two products)?

Hello, for a basic car what things are recommended? I'm a very newbie here. I just want to maintain the car in a good shape only. It's just an old Rav4 (200X) but it's running nice!

Car soap (gold class above), 2 wash buckets, minimum 2 wash mitts, microfibers and lastly ceramic/sealant spray for drying.

Why 2 buckets? I'm guessing first one is for a first pass, and then second one is for a second pass (e.g. the first bucket will have all the dirt and grime and you don't want to use that dirty water/accidentally scratch the car with the dirt/rock)?

Exactly. First bucket if for soap and water for washing using your wash mitt. Second bucket has plain water and is used for rinsing your wash mitt. You should also have a dirt trap at the bottom of each bucket to prevent dirt from rising up into the water. Canadian Tire sells car wash buckets with this feature.
