[Princess Auto] Paddle Boards - $299 - Limited stock (Sept 13- Sept 26)

Hi All!

Princess Auto has paddle boards in stock (yes you read that right). They are on sale from today Sept 13, - Sept 26, but should sell out well before then.

There are about 6 in-store, in Markham (Woodbine) and limited stock GTA locations as well.

These went fast the last time this was posted, with some online orders being cancelled in May of this year.

The brand appears to be "xtreme" and there are 2 models available:

Nereus - 10'6
https://www.princessauto.com/en/10-1-2- ... 0008968216

Artemis - 10'6
https://www.princessauto.com/en/10-1-2- ... 0008968208

There is also an online manual provided here:

Have fun! :)

Can anyone comment on the quality of these compared to say the Costco ones? I remember a few users saying they bought some last time they were in stock, wondering if they've tried them and can attest to their performance.

Also, any difference between the Artemis and Nereus boards or just the style?

Thanks.

EDIT: Bah what the hell, I bought an Artemis one to try anyway. Princess Auto return policy is good enough and it comes with a patch if needed which is nice. Even if I get a few years out of it, can't beat the price for now until it's time for a hard top. Thanks OP! Upvoted.

These ones don't have details on the construction type, but at this price point it'll be a single layer PVC.

What I observed from the pics, especially the bottom view is that this board seems to be lacking stringers, which are required to make the board rigid so it doesn't flex when someone stands on. The Costco Body glove one has 3 stringers on top and 3 on the bottom.

While this may be fine for casual recreational use, the lack of stringers can cause the board to flex in the middle, when in use, which could hamper speed.

When comparing these boards, quality and layers seem to go hand in hand. layers should represent layers of core material, not layers of fabric covering the core. The best idea of quality is weight and the princess auto board is 18kg vs costco's 10kg.

For $300 bucks they definitely can't be great, but a quick look at them a few things stand out. Three-fin design but those leading fins are tiny so I wouldn't expect much difference than a single fin sup. Width is pretty normal for an all-around so it probably tracks noticeably to the right/left as you paddle and steers a little slowly. Pump probably isn't the best, but getting a dedicated SUP pump is worth it anyway in my opinion.

This part is a bit confusing to me, as I’m still a beginner myself, but intuitively shouldn’t more layers and thicker fabric translate to a heavier board? Yet in this case the higher quality Costco board is lighter than the cheaper PA one?

I found this one on Amazon as a lightening deal while browsing and remember seeing this thread. I have no clue about paddle boards but the price seems good on this one.

Costco Body Glove > Princess Auto but what you said in your EDIT. There's enough youtube reviews on these cheap boards that they do the job for light recreational use. So it's an Amazon price but with PA warranty.

I do recommend going in store, my wife grabbed one on the way to work and they hadn't fulfilled my online order for in-store pickup. So if they satisfy walk-ins first, there might not be any confirmation email coming, it'll be cancelled like what happened to RFD'ers in the last thread.

Good deal, seems lighter than PA, probably not much different in quality. So an extra $50 would be for preference on looks and PA warranty. The Amazon one is 30d on the board.

Thank you for the tip and good call on going in store! I was in the neighbourhood and popped in to buy it before the online order was fulfilled. Originally in store stock showed 4 of each colour when I ordered online and when I went in there was only one white / orange (the one I wanted) left before my order was fulfilled. Grabbed that one and cancelled the online order.

I’ll test it out this weekend and let people know how it feels.

I really think we are just buying the PA warrenty here. I doubt there would be significant quality difference between this one and the Amazon ones. (Amazon's return policy ain't bad either)

No idea how good this one is, but it's $199.99.
Interesting... Would this be about the same quality as the Princess Auto one? If so I'd be willing to return the PA one since I'd expect either to require a patch after some time... It's still in the box lol. For 2/3rd the price it's not bad savings.

It is suspect when picture says 18.3 kg and description on both Amazon and PA say 29lbs for whole package.

The sturdiness is measured by max weight the board can support which is 120 kg for this one Vs 145 kg for the Body Glove. Dual PVC layers should be able to support 300 to 400 lb easily, which this one is definitely not.

If the sturdiness is measured by max weight would that make this a fairly decent 10' board?

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08GBM4KM4/?th=1&psc=1

Ad states max weight of 350lbs (roughly 158kg).
