[Princess Auto] Surplus Epoxy Garage Coating and Primer at Princess Auto (Single Car Garage Kit - $89.99)

Princess Auto has some solid surplus prices if you're looking to put an epoxy coating on your garage floor this summer.

Single Car Garage Floor Coating Kit - Dark Grey - $90 (90fl oz)
https://www.princessauto.com/en/single- ... Id=9109216

Concrete Primer - $60 (400ft2)
https://www.princessauto.com/en/garage- ... Id=9076209

24 in. Rubber Floor Squeegee - $15
https://www.princessauto.com/en/24-in-n ... Id=9090788

Prices seem double for all products at Home Depot. Just note that the 90 fl. oz kit should only cover approx. 175 square feet. (Claimed coverage, many reviews say it will cover less.)

Plenty of threads on this. From what I gather, it should last many years if you properly prepare the garage floor. It seems like the primary failure point is tire marks, so if you don't use your garage to park vehicles and more of a shop, then this seems like a good option.

Seems like a good price.

Is there a better alternative if you use the car for both cars and a workshop? Looking to prevent the concrete dust from getting kicked up

when it comes to epoxy, there is a huge difference between cheapo stuff and 100% solids epoxy when it comes to durability and longevity... considering how much prep there is that goes into pouring epoxy floor, i would not skimp out on epoxy quality... not saying this is a bad product, but it doesn't mention a lot on the page.... personally i would google around for 100% solids epoxy if you want it to last

if you really want it to last, my understanding is you can splurge for polyaspartic floor coating instead of epoxy, it's way more durable but almost impossible for DIY installation so it cost a lot more.

I did this to my 2 1/2 car garage this summer. Used the rustolem 2.5 car kit which was ~$250 on sale at orange store. I personally would not buy the PA kit - not as much coverage and not sure of the brand. The rustoleum kit comes with surface prep which is extremely important to be obsessive about lest you have delamination.

Agree with others above, the surface prep is hugely labour consuming. A thicker epoxy kit may be needed if you want to 'level' your surface and get rid of any cracks. This stuff will still show the surface imperfections. I did a lot of crack repair and grinding first. Total time was 30 hours of labour (had a lot of stuff to move)

I can send pics if anyone is seriously considering this.

Did you rent a concrete floor grinder for the surface prep? If so, how bad was the concrete dust?

Instead of grinding, you can look into shot blasting the floor. Many blasters have built in vacuums which pickup the spent shot, debris and dust.

I think it is Rust-Oleum kit at PA in store. Not sure why is is not showing brand on their website.

Hmm, you could well be right, looks similar to the rustoleum kit. The 2 1/2 kit comes with double what is shown in PA picture, so this would be a savings of $70 assuming it's same. But something seems a bit off about it.

Bought a diamond cutter wheel and a diamond polishing cup for my angle grinder. Must use P100 half-mask, the dust is ridiculous.
I just ground down heaved areas, I didn't really flatten the floor. It was mostly to take downs cracks/heaves and fill the cracks to prevent moisture issues as I have a wood shop.

This post pushed me to investigate a long considered project (and make a RF account) so thanks OP!

A few details to help everyone: this is indeed a single car RockSolid Rustoleum kit just like you find elsewhere. It is NOT as pictured though and instead is their Metallic kit WITHOUT the flakes.

It's definitely a different look and very high gloss but lucky for me my wife really likes it so I picked up 2 Silver Bullet (which I hope will cover a 2 car garage).

I was also lucky there were enough at my local store as they only have single boxes of brilliant blue and amaretto left.

The real hero of this post is the concrete primer though, stuff is $140 at the orange store.

Nice, thanks for the info. I may go grab one for patch work in future. The flakes can be got anywhere, our local concrete co Unicon has them loose.

It's definitely worth it and you'll enjoy the floor once done. Have a case of beer to get you through the hot days.

It looks like it's a Rust-Oleum based on the SDS on PA's website.

I haven't personally tried the Rust-Oleum but I used Rockrez 100% solids in my garage with a top coat and it's held up great over the past 3 years so far.

Noob here.

How do I apply this to my garage floor? Mine has a long crack on the floor.

Found it locally - it is indeed the Rocksolid Metallic polycuramine kit, 80 fl oz / 2.37 l. It comes with concrete etching solution.

HOWEVER 1 kit will only cover 100-125 sq ft.

1 car garage will require 2+ kits, and our 2 car garage requires 5-6 kits.

The store had a mix of blue and brown kits, if you order online it’s a lottery

Oh man. noob here. This is a project I want to do, but just thinking of all the work involved when reading what you guys did. I've seen these kinds of deals a couple of times the past couple of years on RFD. but I dunno.

Some people even power wash their floor first? My garage came with drywall on the sides, and any power washing will get the drywall...not so dry anymore.
