[Provigo] Now! Get Ben & Jerry's ice cream for $2 (QC only)

Hello,

If you're in Quebec, you can buy Ben & Jerry's ice cream for $2 at Provigo until Wednesday the 29th. It's currently on sale for $3 (which is already a good price), and you get 1000 PC Optimum points on top of that, making it $2. The PC offer also ends on Wednesday.

Now, for people living outside of Quebec...

I have quickly looked online and only found Loblaws and Your Independant Grocer who have it on sale for $4. This is too high, but if the 1000 PC Optimum offer works for you, then the final $3 price would be a good deal. I just can't confirm the PC offer will work outside of Quebec.

This being said, I feel the need to educate you on Ben & Jerry's dirty bag of tricks from the last couple of years.

As you already know, this company has been slapping high prices on their ice cream because of its good quality. All was fine, until they decided to reduce the quality of it... without reducing the prices accordingly. They kept their ''premium'' image and prices, but started selling sub-par products.

They basically use less cream (because that's the most expensive ingredient) and instead add more cheap filler stuff like wheat flour, corn syrup, soybean oil, canola oil, guar gum, etc. They even have a ''non-dairy/frozen dessert'' line, which is basically vegetable oil with corn syrup. Imagine paying their regular $5-6 price for 500ml of frozen canola oil and corn syrup... yuck.

You can even see that the ''frozen dessert'' inscription on their packaging is printed pale on pale in order to go unnoticed and trick people into thinking it's still ice cream. They use this cheap and very unethical tactic because they can't legally call that product ice cream in Canada (ice cream requires actual cream and a minimum percentage of it). Yet they still charge you the same amount.

I could go on and on, but the point is simple: do not fall for these traps.

Your safest bet with Ben & Jerry's is to stick to the Cherry Garcia flavor, as it has the most appealing ingredients and a pleasantly creamy taste. The other flavors (apart from maybe Chocolate Therapy) taste like some sweet hodge podge of jobber flock, because they mix way too many things in them. Whatever you do, I recommend you to stick to the dairy versions and avoid the other three product lines.

So go check if your freezer has enough space and get ready to stock up!

Enjoy.

Very educational and totally agree. The best store ice cream you can buy is still haagen dazs. Recently I found the metro brand for $3 in food basics which has a only a handful of ingredients and tastes really good as well.

I've never tried Ben & Jerrys until seeing a great offer for it on here a while back. Trying it I found it was like eating a bowl of cold chocolate bar instead of ice cream. It was still tasty, but damn ..

Thanks for the deal notice....

I went to the freezer to check as I was curious - only the non-dairy variety of the B&J ice-cream is marked frozen dessert. Anything else from them is marked ice cream.
And let's be honest here - the sale to Unilever in the early 2000's was the end of Ben & Jerry's as we formerly know it.

Chapman is good, so is Coaticook (QC based) ice cream.

Side note: Giant Tiger has B&J for 4$

Better put YMMV on the PC offer as I don't see the 1000 point bonus in their flyer, nor my app.

It's on their website. I have accidentally noticed the little 1000 points offer on the price tag in-store, as they didn't advertise it as much as other offers. They are probably trying to hide it, because a final price of $2 is veeery low for Ben & Jerry's ice cream. My guess would be that the PC offer and the $3 sale weren't supposed to be in the same week, and they are trying to not to advertise it.

I have been to different stores, in different towns (as I was looking for the Cherry Garcia flavor) and it works everywhere. The website also keeps showing the offer when I change store locations.

So, rest assured. The 1000 points should work everywhere in QC.

You need to pay $3 and scan your PC Optimum card. Then you get 1000 points ($1) added to your account. The points can only be used on future purchases.

If you don't have a PC Optimum card, you won't get the points. But bear in mind that the $3 price is already a good deal.

The clerk said in was an "in store" promotion yet there was no adverting in store.
In any case, a very good price for a special treat!

Last time I had Chapman’s it was pretty odd tasting. Not for me. I’ll see if I find kawarthas somewhere. I’ve good things about coaticook.

Made the mistake of buying the non dairy b&j and it’s like eating chocolate ice, no bueno.

Half baked and tonight dough are great. Definitely not a clean ingredients list, but Haagen haaz cookie dough also has a funky ingredient list.
