You need to purchase SIM card in store for this promotion. Online purchase of SIM cards will be too late since it takes about at least one week to arrive. Walmart, Mobile shop (inside superstore), London drugs, WOW mobile and some authorized Koodo dealers will be able to sell SIM card and activate for you. You could purchase SIM card in store and bring home to activate, but some vendors are hesitant to sell SIM card alone without activation.

This offer is available for accounts activated in-store too, so if you're already there, it wouldn't be as big of deal to get them to do it compared to if this were an online-only special.

You pay full price for your plan during activation. You will get a credit of your plan cost within 30 days before your first renewal.

Rewards
1. If you enable autopay with your credit or debit card, your will get $2 autopay credit in your account right away for your first billing cycle. Then, from every renewal, you will get $2 credit for every renewal.
2. If you activate you account with a referral, you will get $10 credit in your account within 72 hours after activation.

For an example, it you activate the $15 plan with 100 outgoing minutes + unlimited incoming minutes + unlimited international text + 250MB data:
Pay $15 for the first billing cycle.
$2 autopay credit for the first billing cycle
$10 referral credit
$15 credit for second month. More credit if you activate a higher value plan

Before your first renewal day, you will have $27 available fund in your account.
On the renewal day, PM will add another $2 autopay credit to your account first before taking $15 from your account.
$27 available fund + $2 autopay - $15 plan cost = $14 available fund after the first renewal.
$14 available fund + $2 autopay - $15 plan cost = $1 available fund after the second renewal.

Please note that PM plans are not billed monthly. PM billing cycle is billed every 30 days.

I do not believe this to be an official Pubic Mobile promotion, but rather the retailer using it as a tool to secure the activation/commission.

This is great timing, I was going to sign up for PM any day now.

How do referrals work if activating in-store? Will they do that for you?

Vendor enters the Referral code on activation.

Walmart is known to offer free SIM cards when you activate in store. YMMV though. Not official promotion.

When it comes a possible free sim card with activaiton, this is almost always YMMV. If it isn't advertised, the salesperson can just say no.

Other than maybe saving the $10 for the SIM card there is zero benefit to activating in store. There is no magic or special portal that they use and it is in fact exactly the same as if you did it at home. Also if you have any referrals when you set up you really have to trust the person doing it to actually add the code to your account and not their own (been more than a few threads on the Public forums about this sort of thing.

For those that do go through with the in store activation, do yourself a favour and log in to the self-serve portal and at least change the password you gave the agent when they set up the account. Also make damn good and sure that if you gave them a referral code that it is actually on YOUR account before leaving the store.

The portal at the store isn't exactly the same. If you activate in-store, the Public Mobile self serve account does not need to get created there. That can be done later at home. The account PIN is also randomly generated and the sales person won't know it. It's sent to the customer in a text message.

For online activations, the customer must choose an account PIN and set up a self serve account during the activation process.

I activated mine in Walmart (Rexdale store) about 6 months ago, got the SIM for free, and the person entered the referral code I gave just fine (and I did get the referral benefits).
