Purchasing extra Apple Lightning cables - authentic vs non

I lost my iPad's lightning cable ages ago and have been using some $3 knock-off cable from Dollarama.

Now that I bought the iPhone 6, I think I should buy some real cables.

Is there a difference between the authentic Apple cables, or Apple-certified cables from companies like Anker or Belkin?

Where did you get your extra lightning cables from?

Some cables don't charge as fast and break easily.

I also read reports that cheap cables can harm battery life.

Buy originals or MFI lightning cables. The cheap ones will work, but will not last.

I get cables from Amazon basics. They have certified cables . They sell ones which are much longer than the standard apple cables, very useful to me.

Yep, fakes never last long even if you're very careful with them.
Also, a non MFI cable may fry the coupler between the battery to phone.
Bad news if you're out of warranty.

Certified cables from other companies are usually cheaper and better quality than Apple's original cables. Try Amazon Basics, they offer one-year warranty.

The coupler? Do you mean the Charge port I'm guessing?

From my experience I have and use both original and "copy" iphone lightning cables. From my experience I have found that the lightning cable is in general just a bad design and not very strong just past the connector where it usually tends to break/tear. I have seen this happen with both original and copy cables and I dont feel that either one is better then the other. As for causing issues with the phone I have heard stories in the past of them being bad but again I have yet to see or experience any issues with them. I have seen a while ago when the cheap china cables would not work properly after an IOS update however with these new ones I have yet to see that happen.

Then again it could be the source where people are buying them from. There are really cheap copy cables & decent copy cables from what I have seen.

As long as the lightning cable is certified you'll be fine. I have a couple of non-certified (fake) cables from when I was in China and they don't work.

As long as they are MFI, I wouldn't worry. In most cases, the after-market MFI cables will be cheaper and better quality.
