(Quebec) Is it okay to drive a rental vehicle for the SAAQ driving road test?

Hi I am thinking of renting a vehicle for my upcoming SAAQ road test and was wondering whether it is possible to do so.

Renting a vehicle on the test site (for the test only) cost roughly the same as renting a vehicle from other car rental companies (Hertz, Communauto etc for 24 hours). With the latter option, I can practice more and get familiar with the road condition around the test site.

I have seen people mentioning that it is okay to drive with your own vehicle, but not sure about vehicle from traditional rental companies. Are the rental cars from the test site much different from other cars that it is recommended to use those? i.e. safety checked by SAAQ certified technicians?

A quick check from the SAAQ site reveals that apart from the regular checks (mirror, windshield etc) from the examiner, I might be asked to provide the following:
the valid and signed registration certificate for the vehicle you will be using for the test

a paper copy of your proof of liability insurance
As for the registration certificate, I assume it would come with the car and should be in the car all time? For the liability insurance, I guess it is the insurance coverage that I pay extra for when renting the car? Or Am i misunderstanding something here? Could anyone share some insights? Thanks.

I have an overseas driver's license so I can drive before obtaining one in Canada.

Thanks in advanced.

Rental cars in Canada all come with the minimum level of insurance required. This insurance is the insurance you legally need to drive, i.e., it covers damages to others that you hit, not damages to the rental car itself. All cars (including rental cars) should/will have both the ownership (registration) and insurance slip in the glove box. You do not need to pay extra for this when you rent the car. The extra insurance you pay for is generally to cover damage to the rental car itself, which is entirely optional, and has nothing to do with the legal requirements.

Thanks for clarifying.
I remember seeing the insurance documents when I rented a car last time but I am not sure if it was the one that the SAAQ requires. I guess I will speak to the rental companies directly and ask if they will provide it and make sure to know what they look like just in case.

IMO if you need 24 hours to get familiar with the roads around the joke of a road exam by the saaq... you're driving wrong.

just rent a car from one of the schools at the saaq. Do your test, you can't really fail unless you're braindead.

I would be surprised if a rental company with rent to someone who’s not fully licensed, but that’s something you’ll find out when you call.

Was thinking the same but if he has foreign license it might work at airport rental counter.

I don't have a car here nor I live near the test site. So I need some practices before the test.
All of the driving schools I have spoken to are fully booked for the next month, same as the test date availability at saaq. If I fail the test I will have to wait for 28 days until I can take another one. So I will need to wait regardless of whether I fail or to have a driving lesson. Since the test only cost $29 I am willing to give it a try. As for the car rental cost, I have wanted to rent one for some personal matters for a while, So I think it's fine.

It would be best if you contact the rental agency beforehand to see if they will rent you a car with your overseas license, and if there are any additional procedure/fee involved.

I have rented cars from traditional rental companies and Communauto a few times here so I don't see any issues here. Perhaps you meant renting a car specifically for the road test might involve additional precedure?
Anyways, I will visit a nearby rental office tomorrow to confirm the details. Thanks for the input.
