Question on becoming a Real Estate Broker of Record

How hard is it to become a Broker of Record and what does it take to open a brokerage? My significant other already has her license and I'm kind of nudging her to consider taking this path to open her own brokerage.

Is it a matter of just completing the The Real Estate Broker Course and one other elective?
