Question for a license plate number from the hit-and-run car

My car was parked in square one parking lot last Saturday and I was waiting inside the car for taking out food. A car tried to park next to me but hit my car rear left side. I stopped the car and told the driver I will call police and she run away. I took a picture of her car license plate but the plate is very old and blue ink is faded a lot for the last two digits. Does anyone know if Service Ontario will help me identify the plate number? Or other resources? Thanks a lot.

Service Ontario will not help you, however the police do have access to the information and they are mandated to investigate H&R collisions. Just report to the police with your evidence.

There's a few posters here who have some software than can help in reading that plate.

for insurance you will need a witness or video

Just go to the collision center. They can run a license plate check.

I went to police station that day. Police said he can not read the plate number and asked me not write any number on the police report. I also sent picture to my insurance company and they can not help as well.

Does your dashcam have footage of the plate?
Post the full, unedited photo up and maybe someone can help.

I find it hard to believe the police can't figure out who that is based on the image that you shared.

The car looks like it is a Nissan Murano and the first 4 characters on the plate look like BLZH. Using that information, I don't see how they wouldn't be able to correlate that down to a person.

There can't be that many people driving around with a Nissan Murano with that plate number. If the police can't figure it out, I question why we even have the front license plate.

I had a similar situation as yours, I quickly took a picture of the car, plates and driver.

I called the police to report the hit and run and then headed to the collision centre.

The last three numbers look like 103

Isn't it amazing that the police and insurance company cannot help you.

Good luck.

Nissan Pathfinder to me. Last three looks like 193.

I do go through a ton of Ontario plates. The trick here is the last digit because its either a 3 or a 8 the font is effectively the same for both except the 3 doesn't complete the holes to create the 8. I blew up the image and there are indentations from the peeling leading me to believe its more likely 8 over 3. The 2nd digit can only be a 0, the 9 hole portion is higher.

Thus my best guess is BLZH 108.

Edit: I should add if going via Service Ontario, I don't know how much information they're allowed to give for privacy reasons.

File a hit and run with the police with your photo evidence and description of car and driver. From an insurance point of view, that report should be good enough.

As others have mentioned I would try a collision centre prepared with multiple guesses of what you think the plate number is.
Failing that I would go to a different centre or police station with more guesses if you need to. You might find someone more understanding.

I would also try contacting the used car dealership from where the car was most likely purchased.

The license plate frame is from a used car place in Brampton called BR Motors.

BR Motors is located at 117 Kennedy Rd S in Brampton
https://www.brmotors.ca/

It looks to be a Nissan Murano, and if you check BR Motors google page they even have pictures of people posing next to the cars they bought. In one case you can see a guy that traded in what looked like a Murano for a Land Rover. It could be a coincidence but it wouldn't hurt to ask and give them the info you have.

Good luck and let us know what happened. I'm sure others will be interested to know the outcome.

Police would likely be able to help if the Chief of Police's family was involved... Or if the photo was of street racing it would solved in an hour. Can't help? Fine stop collecting your 100K in pay and benefits and move to Florida.
