Question re laptop and monitor connection compatibility

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon gen 4.
It has an HDMI out.

And the monitor I have is a Samsung SA650 24", which only has DP or DVI in.

Any way to connect the two?
I've looked into cables and adapter, but they only support signal going from DP to HDMI (and I need the reverse).

chatbox is correct. The easiest way is to go miniDP to DP. I have a Thinkpad T-series and this is how I connect to my external monitor. A cable should be in the $15-30 range.

I have a MacBook Air and mini-DP to DP works perfectly with my older NEC monitor.

now for the trick question; say I got this cable "miniDP to DP",
would this cable also work with this laptop: "ms surface laptop model 1769" ?

I see the Surface has a miniDP port, but it doesn't have the ++ sign like the thinkpad does?
