Questions on CSC (Canadian Security course)

Hi,

Lately I'm learning the CSC, and I'm starting to come across formulas I can't understand how it is generated,

Is it important to know the math behind it or it's ok to not understand how it come to the conclusion, and I just need to memorize the formulas?

I'm a art major so my math is really bad
