Railing Door / Barn Door Option

Hi, I have to install railing door / Barn door in my room because can't use the normal door due to space issue. Where I can find the good Railing Door / Barn Door? Can someone provide the shop link or door's link? OR more information.

Thanks,

I had a very large custom door made here, and they make/sell the rail kits. Very nice, made in Canada hardware and the prices are great.

I have checked with the www.1925workbench.com but prices are very high. Might be due to covid. The price of 34"x82" door with installation is $4800. Is it Ok to buy from Lowes/Home Depot and then install from third person? It will be cheaper.

If you're looking for hardware, I would first start looking at Richelieu:

https://www.richelieu.com/ca/en/search?s=barn+door

Any contractor should be able to get stuff from there, or you could just walk into most hardware stores and get them to order for you.

Alternatively, could maybe try Mcfaddens, they usually have better prices but less selection most likely for this.

If you're going to hire someone to install, I would go with their recommendations for hardware etc or at least get them to tell you what they like best.

We got our door from JMF Custom Wood Features

It was a custom door because it was wider than standard doors, and we wanted a window in it. I think we paid $1800 for the whole thing, and he even delivered to us from Whitby to Milton. This was 3 years ago.

Install it yourself - not sure what kind of door you had quoted or what rail material (they offer raw steel, brass, stainless etc.) that would cause the price to be that high.

The biggest challenge with hanging these is making sure your structure is solid in the wall. The rail mounts with lag bolts spaced 16" to match wall framing. So you need to know what's behind the drywall before you get into this.

I bought a second rail kit from them for $200 last year for a 48" wide opening.

In 2017 I paid $3000 for a 66" x 85" wood frame door with a glass panel. It was HUUUUGE and heavy to move, but I built a rack for my truck to haul it 300KM to the cottage and had a friend help me move it inside. I hung it myself.

I pulled drywall down and made sure I had solid structure to bolt the rail into.

Is it OK to buy standard Barn door (32/34" x 84")+hardware from Lowes or Home Depot. I have checked the website and prices are normal but not sure about quality.
