Rakuten?

I've always heard about Ebates, and recently Rakuten, but never knew what exactly it was.

How does the cash back stuff work? Do you need to give them your credit card info or what? And is the price discounted on the site you're buying an item from, or do you get the money back days or weeks later?

Also, is there anything other than the $5 bonus for signing up? Is there a better signup deal now or in newr future?

You go the store you want to shop from via their link (make sure adblock is disabled, will make your life easier). No credit cards or discount on site; you receive cashback from Rakuten a few days later. Typically (say Amazon) you need to add the item to the cart after you're linked to Amazon.ca. Any items which were already in the cart won't earn cashback.

Not aware of anything else.

FYI, in case you were not aware

Rakuten & Ebates are the same company
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rakuten_Rewards

Ebates USA recently changing their name to Rakuten

For now Ebates Canada hasn’t changed
And here Rakuten, usually refers to Rakuten Kobo ... the full name for what was / is the Cdn Ebook Co.
With the Kobo Ereaders that you often see @ Chapters / Indigo
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobo_Inc.

So not sure if Ebates Canada will ever become Rakuten here

The other Rebate Co for Cdns shopping online is Great Cdn Rebates (GCR)

NOTE - There are quirks with both programs
You can read about them on various posts in RFD (Forums are Searchable)

In addition to Cash Rebates for shopping online
There are many other shopping portals that work for Loyalty Programs
(If you are a Member ... a handy way to keep your Points Account Active)
2 of the most popular with Cdns are AirMiles Shops.ca and Aeroplan’s Estore
