Yes, if you're talking about the retailers giving you their regular points for making a purchase.
The gift card is just a form of payment, it doesn't normally take away from the points you would earn for making those purchases. You are still making the purchase, which you are rewarded with points.

Not points but the rakeuten cashback when you spend it is what I'm talking about. Can you get cash back on the purchase of the gc and when spending the gc ?

Probably store dependent but generally, yes. I pretty much make all my purchases with gift cards and my Rakuten account is full of cashback lol
Just check first, it's usually in the terms for that store on the Rakuten website

You save $5 by BUYING a 5c/Litre savings card for $50. I don’t think that’s savings really. You have to buy an excruciating 1000 liters of fuel to get those $50 in savings. More like trying to squeeze a penny out of a penny. I don't think I’ve ever seen value in actually paying for a fuel savings card man.

Just my 5 cents.

It is a saving of 0.5 cents /L.
yes, BUYING a 5c/Litre savings card for $50 on 1000 liters is like telling people you will save $50 on something if you pay $50.

Since they sell more than one merchant's gcs, up to 8% means some gcs are at 8%, but not all gcs at 8%. It is like a store having sale event with up to 50% off. Some stuffs are @ 50% off, but not everything in store.

I am aware of what "up to" means. My post was meant for the previous posts (and future posts) that were expecting the 8% off on the mentioned giftcards. If you read the previous post you would understand this.

"Up to" is a common tactic to draw the consumers attention as it often is misunderstood by the consumer as they first just see the 8% off part and assume everything is 8% off. The post should have bolded this or make note on which cards are actually 8% off as those would be the most appealing

Thanks for the tip. I was thinking it would be crappy if I bought a 5% one now and won't be able to take part on a future 10% cashback offer (for example)...gotta read those terms like you mentioned.

I don't think you'd get the category because this is an online spend with Rakuten, not grocery.
Yes that would be hot.

Rakuten has done better with Loblaws in the past and now FreshCo with Moola has kinda changed my whole perspective on jumping in on 3%, like it is now.

I would on Loblaws, 3% or higher.
I remember I did a few hundred once before because it was 3% plus my 2% purchase beating my wife's 4% at grocery with Momentum Visa.
