[RBC] RBC Avion VISA. FYF + 20,000 points

Deal Link:
Saw this deal today when looking at credit card deals. Thought I would share. 20,000 and FYF on a 1K, spend seems pretty hot.

Not sure if it's still available, but recently drop had the same offer with an additional 80,000 drop points.

One of drop t&c is that you must be a first time avion card holder in order to qualify for 80k points

I had this card in 2018 and cancelled it after one year. I was told you can churn this card and get the points again. Is that true?

I might call RBC and see if I can get this- why not.

Why do you need to call RBC? The offer is on the website (unless I'm missing something here). FYF and 15k points on first purchase, another 5k points if you spend $1k on 3 months.

Some feedback on this card... Earlier this year I was pretty excited about signing up for the FYF + 35k points.
Today am at 55k points and besides getting 500$ in gift cards there isnt much there regarding the overinflated "rewards".

Looking back I wish I would have gotten a better "Travel Rewards" card.

Cheers, KH

I'd wait for 25k and no AF. Seems to happen pretty often.

You can transfer those points to 550$ westjet dollars. Which isnt overinflated at all as it is exact cash value and can be used on any flight

I think when I had 30k points I redeemed it towards a flight for $300? Not bad?

I have Westjet MC. If I do product switch, would I get the WB and AF waved?

You can get gift cards or you can wait for bonus redemption to WestJet and Avios points (usually extra 20-30% bonus). I applied when it was 25K/FYF and transferred to Avios during their 30% bonus and was able to use some of the points to fly within Asia. I just recently signed up for the card again (cancelled about 5 months ago) + 80k Drop bonus (not sure if they can verify if my first Avion card or not).

I got an offer to upgrade my regular RBC reward visa to Avion with instant 20k points but the fee is not waived. I called in, they upgraded my card, waived the fee for me and gave me 20k points.

I used the “customer war” trick which is explained in prince of travel’s blog https://princeoftravel.com/rbc-visa-infinite-avion

Reminder that if you switch to WJ dollars there’s an expiry date on the WJD for these bonus ones as they are not regular earned points

But how will they know if you’ve had the card before?
Unless of course you’ve applied for the same card previously through Drop.
GCR says the same thing for their rebates, but I’ve gotten repeat rebates with them for same cards.

No you would not.
The 20k and FYF is via a promotional link, and is not available on the products’ normal RBC website.
Whatever offer is on the normal product website is what you get when you product switch, which is currently 15k and no FYF.
