RDP, VNC type options for android access

I'd like to use some sort of remote access for an Android based TV box, from a Windows pc.

Searching for suggestions offers quite a few Android client options to remotely access a Windows pc.
I want the reverse, server on Android, client on pc.

I'd like to access the Android box from the convenience of my pc, over the LAN, displaying what what would be displayed locally. (i.e. not a vnc display 1, when I want 0)
It's for administration, not the watching of streaming content.
I'm not interested in solutions which use external 3rd parties.
I want it direct on the LAN.

Anyone have a recommendation?

I was of the impression Airdroid required a registration/signup and connection was via them.

I did a quick look, and it appears perhaps some features are available without that.
There is a mode requiring acknowledgement on the Android side.
I wouldn't want that, as I would want unattended access.

I'll have to do some more reading to see if it does what I want.

I'm rooted.

The VNC server apps are far rarer than I initially thought.

The only viable option I found was Droid VNC Sever by José Pereira.
I get a server won't start error, and there are lots of reports of it.
It is no longer developed.

VMLite seems rather expensive for my purposes.
It is hardly critical to me, and I thought it would just be a nice convenience to have access.
Given how common VNC is otherwise, I'm a little shocked it isn't more available.

I'll take a look at Airdroid and see what it can do.
