I remember another high profile Spielberg adaptation that never got made
Thread title needs and update. ;)

"Warner Bros., the studio behind the tentpole, has moved the movie from Dec. 15, 2017, to March 30, 2018."

I finished the book last night and I have doubts about this movie. I can see this movie fizzling out like Ender's Game. the source material started off interesting but got pretty silly by the end of it, and trying to make a total nerd VR fest appealing to a wide audience sounds like a tall order.

I can see that happening as well.

Trade reviews after a glitchy premiere at SXSW

"A much-loved fanboy novel gets the movie it deserves."

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/revie ... ew-1093639

"Steven Spielberg turns Ernest Cline's novel into a virtual-reality fanboy geek-out that's entrancing when it's virtual, though less so when it's real."

http://variety.com/2018/film/reviews/re ... 202723649/

FWIW the audience gave a standing ovation

an audience at a premiere not giving a standing ovation to the hand that feeds them, would be quite shocking...

Wonder if this'll be more successful than Valerian.

This movie is equally disappointing and great. I say this because it has its innocent Spielberg moments, yet it doesn't deliver in the story department.

It's a very, very simple movie and people may have problem with that.

I went to go see this last night in iMAX 3D. I really enjoyed it, just an overall fun movie to watch. Lots of little fun references to video games/movies. Just turn off your brain and enjoy. I gave it an 8/10 on IMDB.
