[Real Canadian Superstore] Rooster Luncheon Meat $1.79

Rooster luncheon meat is on sale at RCS West this week for $1.79. It's like Spam, but a less expensive Chinese version. Good alternative with inflation setting in.

Not exactly Chinese per se, as the Rooster brand is owned by Loblaws/Galen Weston. More like just catering to the Chinese/Asian community.

I remember when these used to be a $1, sad how everything's gone up in prices. Still gave you an upvote, OP, thanks!

Deal.. Yes. What humans should be ingesting... Thats another question. I just peeked at the ingredient list. Wish I hadn't. Thumbs up for the deal, thumbs down for your health.. (though I actually can not comment on the taste as I've never tried it,
so maybe I'm missing out on the most delicious thing ever.?)

Not exactly healthy but then again you gotta indulge once in a while.
I try this fried with Indomie and fried egg.

Probably no worse than fast food places.

not bad price, haven't tried this. Can anyone comment compared to others? Usually stick to Spam at Costco or Holiday (less salty) from Asian grocers locally.

These were $0.14 about 3 weeks ago at RCS near STC along with Rooster instant noodles. I bought a couple of them and they honestly aren't bad at all. If someone told me it was Holiday brand without looking at the label, I'd believe them.

Never had this "meat". What's it taste like? Is it best pan-fried? Are there any other good ways to prepare this?

Tbh I prefer Rooster and Holiday over Spam. Spam has more texture, while these are more like hot dog in a can sort of thing

SPAM stands for 'Spoiled Pig's Ass Meat" all kidding aside i never dared try this brand. Usually go the TnT house brand. Are these comparable to SPAM or the TnT house brand? I think the Holiday one tastes gross.

Probably doesn’t make much of a difference health-wise as it’s all not really healthy. And I do agree the non-Spam brands do taste more like hot dogs. But the ingredients are probably the reason why as the non-Spam brands are usually filled with more other cheaper ingredients, chemicals, and fillers (and why Spam is always the most expensive):

Rooster Brand Ingredients:
Mechanically Separated Chicken, Pork, Water, Wheat Flour, Salt, Potato Starch, Sugar, Monosodium Glutamate, Sodium Erythorbate, Sodium Nitrite

SPAM Ingredients:
Pork, Water, Salt, Modified Potato Starch, Sugar, Sodium Nitrite.
