Recommend a Device for Streaming for Garage

Scenario: I have a 50" Sony LCD TV and a Yamaha YAS-101 sound bar that I got when my grandfather passed away.

Goal is creating a man cave in the garage to watch sports (via bell fibe app) as well as streaming music (spotify). Bell fibe app can be used on a phone or firestick, android TV, Apple tv/airplay. (I have android cellphones, with Amazon echo smart home devices).

Soundbar does not have built in Bluetooth. It only has optical and a coxial input. TV output is going to be through optical.

What device would be the best solution in this scenario? For the music/spotify it would better if I didn't have to fire up the TV as well but not mandatory.

Chromcast sounds like a close winner, just don't like how everything is done through your phone and it doesn't have a remote.

Firestick I know you are supposed to be able to connect your phone via Bluetooth but I already have the new 4k max and it simply won't pair so thats not a reliable solution. It has a spotify app but its clunky.

Is there a different device you would suggest? Or are these the top two?

For just Spotify, I am using a rPi running Volumio. Works very well, though I use my phone for control. I think it should support IR, however never tried it

more apps ... more content .... i have been using them for the last few years ... saving me at least $70 a month from paying for the Rogers / Bell "so-called" Live TV boxes (which really is internet based "cable box") ... they work just like android boxes except you pay monthly for it.

Get it ... try it ... don't like it ... return it ... repeat until you find one that suits your needs for content ...

Did you check your WiFi signal in the garage?

Depending on how old your Sony TV is, it should already have Android TV. All you need is strong WiFi and just install the Bell Fibe app on the TV

Nothing to buy

… sorry about your grandfather.

Chromecast with Android TV (not the old chromecast) would be my choice.

We use that in the exercise room.

We have a couple smart displays and clocks but every TV has Android TV either onboard, Shield, or newer Chromecast. In the garage, it's pretty similar to what you want to do - I just have the TV output audio to an old receiver.
