Recommend Humidifier

So i been getting a lot of nose bleeds and hoping someone can recommend a humidifier. Not really sure if there is really a difference between them besides the extra features and amount of water they hold

If you live in a home with ductwork I'd recommend aprilaire unit that attaches to your ducts. If you're looking for a little room unit, I have no experience with those.

As Double J said, if you are in a house get a Aprilaire Whole house humidifier, ideally one that is fan powered and install it in front of the AC / heater fan. The cheaper ones installed on the return air never really worked as well for me.

If you prefer a room one, we used the Pure Guardian Cool Mist before from Costco, they are sometimes on sale but generally run about $100 or so for two units. Haven’t had any issues with them.

If you don’t have one, also get a hygrometer or air quality monitor so you can fine tune or verify the humidity in the rooms.

I concur with @Double_J Aprilaire are the best humidifiers. Depending on the size of your house you can chose from models 500,600 or 700. Below thread is 9 pages long but a lot of information on whole house humidifier

thanks for the link. I'll read through the thread.

I honestly didn't know/think about a whole house unit. How much does a average one cost for a unit + installation?

First we have to determine what is the appropriate size/type for your home. How big is your house?
This link will give you a fair idea about humidifier sizing.

OP, you getting nose bleeds now? Usually that happens in the winter. We have a Aprilaire 600 installed, huge comfortable difference, for my nose bleeds and daughter's skin in winter.

The 700 with digital controls can run $400+. You can pick them up on occasion for $250-$300 from Facebook Marketplace brand new in box.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the 700 series, works like a dream.

Installed I would imagine you will find prices north of $750.

Aprilaire 700 is a great product by Aprilaire, however its not that one size fits all. Especially 700 installation has many accessibility challenges on supply side that may become hindrance. So its important to take measurements of clear/ accessible area on supply duct before buying 700. 500 and 600 models are very flexible for installation if accessibility is an issue

Do I have to worry about mold if I have very leaky ducts? I live in a 70 yr old home. Id admit ducks works not the best.

In the winter time RH level reaches to 20% or lower....

Thanks In advance.

Mold is the result of excessive humidity. Your home is way below the optimum RH which is 40-45%
