Recommendation on Air Purifier?

Good morning Folks,

I'd like to get my mom an air purifier for Christmas as she lives in a small apartment in a duplex building and her downstairs neighbors are always smoking various substances and filling her place with unpleasant odors and I'm sure unhealthy things based on the smell.

While I'd love to help her move somewhere better, she refuses to move to a different city and there are very few rentals available in her town within her price range.

Unfortunately I know nothing of air purifiers and trying to judge based on reviews and price is difficult.

Can anyone provide a recommendation on a decent air purifier? Her place is quite small so it doesn't need to cover a huge area.

Since this is RFD, it would be great if there was a deal on something but not entirely necessary.

Thanks kindly.

Look at a unit from Austin Air. They are too rated and used now in many dentist and doctors offices. They are also located in Ontario.

The filters alone cost $390, that's more than most air purifiers cost. Way too pricey for me, sorry.

Have 2 of the above. They go on sale from time to time. Note there are 2 filters, a felt filter and a hepa filter. The hepa one can be a bit pricey but overall we are very satisficed with the performance. and note $269 is for 2 units.

This may not be suitable for your mom but it offers a charcoal filter that lasts months and filters
are not too expensive to replace. You place the filter on the floor and mount the fan on top of it. Like a vertical stack or a chimney. It's ugly but inexpensive. Maybe hide it behind some furniture. No hepa though.

+1, for Germ Guardian.
We bought the Elite versions with the UV light.

We have this one, seems to work very well. We got it mostly for pet dander allergies, but it should work for your situation too. Available on Amazon.ca.

They have a variety of different sized hepa filtered fans. Well reviewed too.

I had the same problem and also decided to buy air purifyer. now I have two purifiers. The one is C&H CH-P23W5I and Xiaomi (I've got it as a present). Both are suitable for me and clean all the odors.

There are ones with washable HEPA filters. I looked into this before but never pulled the trigger. I'd get one with washable filters to save on the long term maintenance costs of replacing filters.
