Refunded whole Nike order, refund less than entire total of order

I made an order for a couple pairs of shoes on Nike.ca. After sending them back I got an email that says they are processing my refund; except the amount is $15 less than my order total.

The refund page says that "delivery fees are not refundable unless (I) receive an incorrect item", but I paid $0 for shipping/handling and the order confirmation states that.

Should I file with Paypal now or wait for the refund to be sent?

Try reaching out to Nike first and asking them why. It's always best to reach out to where you bought something from first.

Most issues can be resolved without filing disputes or other time consuming measures needing to be taken.

Yes, agree with the above comment. They overcharged me once and after chatting with them, they gave me a partial refund.

bingo.

why wouldn't you call or email them first OP before filing a dispute?

That happens with Amazon too. You buy something that qualifies for free shipping, change your mind about it, send it back and they add the cost of shipping it back. With Amazon, if there's something wrong with the product or it's misrepresented in some way you won't be charged. Some retailers have free exchanges if it's the wrong size, and it's a good idea to research before buying so you're not stuck with a pair of shoes that don't fit (ask me how I know ;) ).

Amazon discloses that at the point you request the return, though. I think it's different if they give you a free returns label and then later deduct an arbitrary amount that you were never told about. If you never paid original shipping fees and weren't told what the charge would be before returning the item, what's to stop them deducting $50? Seems unfair.

Didn't want to wait in a queue for however long to get chat bot responses or hold on phone for an hour+ over $15. Both of these have been the norm for the couple times I've had return issues with other retailers during the COVID era.

"delivery fees are not refundable"

+$15 shipping fees - $15 shipping discount = $0

In order to receive $15 less they must add $15 which has nothing to do with "not refundable". It is refundable actually because the $15 discount was returned to the seller (+$15).

They are doing this to create a perception that return shipping is "free"

I believe Amazon actually shows shipping cost then a discount for the free shipping. So technically you lose your discount when you return the item aka pay for shipping which wasn’t really free. Of course some items have satisfaction guarantee + free returns (tho the label isn’t as common now or at least I haven’t noticed it lately). Those items would qualify for free returns.
