At least it has the Radeon 6630 video card. It's a better machine than the newly released entry level Mini.

What's wrong with the video card in the new Mini's?

It's not a dedicated graphics card. Intel Graphics are sub-par. I'd definitely take the configuration in this post over the entry level new Mini.

Upon closer inspection, I don't recommend this model...you're better off buying the new entry level Mac Mini. Here's why:
Previous gen
2nd gen 32nm Sandy Bridge
4GB 1333 Mhz
AMD Radeon 6630 32nm 256mb

New
3rd gen 22nm Ivy Bridge i5 2.3Ghz
4GB 1600 Mhz
Intel HD 4000 22nm (system ram)

The newer version is faster in every aspect except the GPU, where it is negligibly faster according to this benchmark: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/vi...=Intel+HD+4000

Someone please prove me wrong, as I purchase the refurb and will have to go through the hassle of returning it if I'm right.

You can also get the new version for $579 on student discount.

Apple refurbs are for all intents and purposes new machines delivered in a beige box
They have the same warranty as new, and every refurb I have bought has been immaculate as new condition cosmetically

having a USB 3 port would have been really nice

I would spend the extra $50 just for the USB 3 ports on the new model

Can't compare Apple refurbs with other company's refurbs. Apple refurbs are literally brand new in plain packaging. They are not open box demos or returns that they repackage as refurbs. Apple refurbs are tested to meet their quality control, and sold with their standard full warranty. You won't be disappointed with Apple refurbs. And if you do have problems with it, Apple warranty is top notch and you won't have any problems getting it serviced/replaced by Apple.

You can put up to 16GB of RAM into the 2011 Mini. Some people think that it will recognize faster RAM as well.

I bought a 2011 refurb Mini earlier this year. I installed 1866 Mhz plug & play RAM and a SSD. It boots in 17-18 seconds so don't be worried about performance if you max it out.
