remove old thermostat

They usually just snap off, try pulling from the base.

You'll need to use the included power extender kit or pull a new cable if you don't have a spare conductor in the wall behind the stat. Most old stats don't need/use the common, your new one requires it.
Pulling a new able is always better but not always practical.

It was the first link. Most of them pop off the mounting plate.

Simple.

Pop it out .. take a photo of the wires ... disconnect the wires ... wire up to the Ecobee .. DONE!
