You want something with a high middle number. This one is 0.

The first number is the amount of nitrogen (N), the second number is the amount of phosphate (P2O5) and the third number is the amount of potash (K2O). These three numbers represent the primary nutrients (nitrogen(N) - phosphorus(P) - potassium(K)). This label, known as the fertilizer grade, is a national standard.

A brief description of each major nutrient:

Nitrogen:
essential for growth of foliage;
produces lush, tender, green leaves (or grass blades);
deficiency results in a yellow-green color (chlorosis) and little or no growth;
is easily flushed through the soil.

Phosphorous:
stimulates root growth;
hastens the maturity of plants;
promotes development of flowers, fruits, seeds;
deficiency can result in slow or stunted growth and purplish discoloration on leaves;
remains in the soil quite well.

Potassium:
gives vigor to tolerate changing weather conditions;
helps resist disease;
assists in the food manufacturing process;
strengthens cell wall structure for strong stems;
deficiency can cause week stems and slow growth;
leaches from the soil, not so fast as nitrogen.

Also you have to consider aerate your soil at least once every 2 years. I do rent the aeration machine and split the cost between me and my neighbor.

Aeration can be done in spring or autumn, I did it for the past 2 years in spring i might skip it for this year.

an easy way to remember the numbering system is

"Up, Down, and Around"

up = anything for above ground (leaves)
down = roots
around = all general good stuff

How much and where did you rent the aerator machine from? How big is it as well? I have a small SUV dunno if I would be able to transport it home.

There's a place in Laval called Location Vimont http://www.locvim.com/html/fr/index.html he charge 13$ per hour minimum 2hours, depends how big is your lawn 2 hours is enough for 1 house.

my neighbor had dodge caravan 2003 and it fit easily, look around for aeration machine
