For RV / Solar : $674.99 Renogy 12 volt 100 Ah Lithium iron phosphate battery,

Deal Link:
Price:
$674
Expiry:
July 29, 2021
Retailer:
Renogy Canada
Looking for RV / van conversion 12 volt load battery ( this is not a starting battery) it modern and light.

This battery was on sale for around $850 last week, it's on sale for 749 till July 29 add code "WillProwse" which lower price by 10%

Image

Pro's this has a warranty and service in Canada.
- Very light 26 pounds ( my 100 Ah AGM battery weighs 70 pounds)
- made up of LiFePO₄ pouch cells
- You can open the battery without having to destroy the case.
- This week its cheaper in Canada that on the US site.
- Battery got a pass mark from Will ( aka the Solar Youtube wonder boy )
- Battery is not suited for cold weather operation, you'll need another model for that also on sale that has a built in heating pad : https://ca.renogy.com/renogy-12v-100ah- ... -function/

Con's
- This model can only be connected in parallel, ie you can't create 24 volts battery banks with it.
- You will need a charger than can handle the Lithium iron phosphate chemistry. (youtube comments says it can be charged with a regular car battery charger
- Prices should only keep getting cheaper ?
- Warranty is only 5 year pro-rated
- Customer support is not that great.
- Needs additional Bluetooth module or monitor for remote monitoring.

On a past purchase from ca.renogy.com I was not charged for any shipping or taxes.

Nice chart to print out and have near your battery, the reference voltages and low discharge voltage for the different battery chemistry

There's the convenience factor I suppose... Or if you need the specific size slot in an RV or smth.
Though, if you want to tinker a bit yourself, you could DIY a bit:

Recently discovered this old german living in Australia playing around with the LiFePO4 cells from china. You'd need to buy 4 cells to make 12V, sting them in series and add a BMS on top. This would get you roughly 2.5 times more amp-hours (amount of electricity storage) for, probably 30% cheaper. There are smaller cells too for cheaper that would give you the equivalent amount of amp-hours at half the price (a bit of a guess cause I didn't look at the price of the battery).

Decent price for 100Ah! Still got some life left in my two Trojans otherwise I would be so tempted!

I already have the inverter/charger from them and the Rover solar mppt controller. They are really well built.

PS. the Bluetooth dongle (at least for the solar charger) can be bought from aliexpress for a lot less.
most things haven't worked out

I wish I had the confidence to DIY Chinese LiFePO4 cells.

Yeah I watch his stuff its very interesting, From what I understand all the LiFePO4 deals were last year before the pandemic, apparently the cost of shipping this stuff to NA has increased 3 fold.

I did some quick math and most battery kits, 4 x 280 Ah 3.2 volt cell and bus bars come out to about $600 CAN, plus you have to add a 100 amp BMS, quality one seem to be around $100-150 USD. then you need some cables crimps tool crimps, a smarts battery shunt meter add in custom charger so you can balance the 3.2 volt cell before you build the pack, then add a fancy wather proof case. In my area above the cost of a renogy battery with strange form factor.

I was thinking of a diy a pack using this : https://batteryhookup.com/products/new- ... ah-cells-1 So that $240 USD plus $78 for shipping = $315 plus I guss you have to add duties and taxes, again you have add the battery case, BMS, terminals cables, crimp tools smarth battery shunt / meter to have idea of the battery state.

Haven't tried it, but the old german guy went through Alibaba and got good pricing.
https://offer.alibaba.com/cps/i0ern68u? ... 02538.html

He has order many of them already, he's building his own home battery setup. Here's a spreadsheet of his endeavors:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0
He's been shipping them to Australia... Can't imagine the difference being that big when shipping to Canada.

Your quick math is pretty close to my experience in building a cell with 3.2v cells I bought from Alibaba via advice and recommendations via DIYSolarforum.

One additional thing to consider for Renogy or DIY battery is how you will charge the battery. Double check that whatever you use supports a LifePo4 charge profile.

dont forget about cell compression and heat pads if your diy packs call for it in your expected use cases

Its a pretty good price for a drop in solution..

I lived %100 off-grid for a few years on a sailboat with a Winston (Chinese) DIY LiFePO4 pack. In that situation, 400ah was the bare minimum for %100 off-grid. However, EVERYTHING ran through our bank- lights, water pump, nav gear, autopilot, fridge, freezer, fans...ect.. We had 1000 watts of solar for charging..... Sorry, got off topic...

but to put it into perspective, we paid $2200USD for our cells (remember 400ah) and about $300USD for our BMS, wiring, ect.
So about $3150CAD for our system. If you divide by 4 that is $787/100ah. Of course that was a few years ago when LiFePO4 was pretty expensive.. This is still a solid deal, especially considering that they are Renogy batts. Renogy has come a long way and is considered affordable quality products nowadays.

This is a great deal. I basically paid this much to build a 4 cell Chinese battery 2 years ago. Unless you’re interested in learning your way around modern lithium chemistry this is a way better solution.

Good price. Lol 26lbs for 1.2kwh, I see why they don't use it for ebike.

Great deal. I bought this a few months ago for around $800. Still finishing my build so haven't really used it yet. So far quality seems good. The software for the BT module is pretty buggy and not great.

Wow, I’m impressed. I ordered late Tuesday night. It shipped Wednesday morning from Mississauga and Purolator delivered it this morning in Ottawa. Packaging is sturdy and the battery looks like it’s well made and light but still sturdy. This will replace a pair of Costco golf-cart batteries at my off-grid cottage. I always dreaded moving those because they are heavy AF and I’m not getting any younger. It will be nice not to worry about over-discharging the lead-acid batteries. As someone else stated, I was not charged for shipping or tax…$675 all in.

Thanks OP!

Renogy’s charger is expensive and sole purpose (lithium only). Any recommendations for a lithium-compatible universal 120V charger? I’m thinking AliExpress since even Amazon ain’t cheap.

Yeah I was facing the same issue, I wanted a jack of all trades, the best I found was a Victron Energy Blue Smart IP65 Charger https://www.amazon.ca/Victron-Blue-Smar ... B07DWJD84N

This charger ( expensive) is unique in the it has a wide range of built-in profiles and user customizable profiles via the mobile the Victron Connect mobile or PC app. I also has mode where in which it can operate a power supply with a constant voltage that is user defined.

But at 12 volts I don't think the charger really matter as its realy the BMS inside the battery that is doing the job of charging the internal battery pack and it will drop the current draw when the packs that make up the battery are full.

In his youtube review, Will answered a question in the comments Question Can I use a regular car battery charger with this battery and his response was a yes.

btw I got the battery this morning, that was fast shipping its was a 57% Soc, I also purchased the Renogy Battery monitor you see plugged to the battery
