Replaced Dishwasher forgot I had extended warranty

I bought a dishwasher in 2013 and it broke a few months ago. I had it replaced with a different model from a different retailer. A few days ago, the original retailer called me to ask If i wanted to extend my gold-plan coverage protection for an extra 2 or 4 years. To my surprised I had totally forgotten that I had paid the extra 100$ to cover the dishwasher bumper-to-bumper for the following 5 years after purchase. I accidentally replaced it from a different retailer while still under coverage from the original retailer.

Do I have any recourse here? There was no obvious sticker or label anywhere on the machine to remind me of the extended coverage. It's my mistake but I'd still like to know if I have any leverage here with the original retailer?

Any help is much appreciated.

Do you still have the broken dishwasher? If yes, you can certainly claim it.

Is it past 5 years now? If you paid with a CC you may have an extra year coverage on top of your extended.

You seriously want to know if you have any leverage over a broken dishwasher you already threw away?

If you had paid to repair the dishwasher, you may have been able to submit for reimbursement of the repair costs. However, this is you disposing of the defective merchandise 'a few months ago' and forgetting you had warranty coverage - this is all on you. You have absolutely no leverage at all with the original retailer, and they did absolutely nothing wrong. Stickers or labels are not common and the lack of same wouldn't be a strong point in your favour anyway.

Chalk it up as a lesson for this new dishwasher. :)

Sucks sorry to hear.

I usually put a sticker with the warranty date on the device near the serial number so that I don't forget 5+ years later

Sometimes I wonder when I read some wack posts on here. Common sense isn’t so common it seems.

You bought it 5 years ago and bought the extended warranty which was for five years. So basically your warranty is over...unless it's a case of just under 5 years then just count your losses because the extended warranty was for five years and it's been almost 5 years, even if they prorated a refund for you, near then end of the 5 years, it will add up to not much anyway.

If you still have the broken one then get it replaced and sell it on Kijiji. If you got rid of the broken one (like I guess you did) then you are screwed. Unless you can buy for very cheap a broken dishwasher identical to the one you had.

They will have the serial number of the original unit of course otherwise people can just scam it.
