Restriction on new users from starting a thread

Seeing too many troll threads from people with only 1 post. Maybe institute a 20 post requirement before someone can start a thread.

Better yet, RFD should introduce a 2nd verification step with every new account. Use a cell phone text PIN verification. This would decrease the number of duplicate accounts (especially after someone gets banned).

10% off is cold, 50% off is warm, 75% off is hot, but FREE IS RFD!

I don't think that would be enough. Wouldn't they just post gibberish like "I agree" or "thank you" to meet the 20 post requirement? Since they are trolls they do have the time to do this. If it is technically possible, make new accounts wait 1 or 2 years before they can start a new thread. Hopefully the trolls find a life before that. The 2 step verification idea is also another.
Or go all out and have new accounts send copies of their driver's license/passport Smiling Face With Open Mouth

Perhaps "troll" was the wrong choice of description.
Maybe the OP can elaborate.

What I see are one post wonders, that in contrast to what you describe, already put little effort in and would not do as you describe.

They are posters that have one question, create an account and ask it.
They are seldom seen again, or contribute anything.
Followup posters waste their time answering, and may as well speak into the wind.

There is one, who has started dozens and dozens of rfd threads over years with a new id, mostly on auto and finance, She seems to have abandoned one id (including her real picture) after she had others deleted awhile ago, and now uses another old id that is her real name strictly on the circle k contest thread. She has *hundreds* of ids on reddit. She uses mutiple ips. SHE said, herself that she does it on facebook too. Some of her past rfd names were exactly the same as her reddit id started the same day. Figure out what to do with her and problem solved. Granted, if the same few people who respond all the time woud think for a second, they would know its her right away and just ignore her. She is a massive troll, the worst person I have ever seen. On reddit she make up "characters", describes herself as a teen, a man, etc, makes a couple posts amd moves on to start more ids. Granted, her posts are worse on reddit then the endless new threads here, often asking dumb questions "for a friend/relative", then abandoned while the same few people respond until the thread is locked. I have told an rfd mod about her in the past, including her real name. After the last few were deleted quickly, I am pretty certain she is responding on the day trade thread. with another new id
If you aren't willing to take small losses, then you will take big losses. This is my guarantee. -

Which brings us back to maybe a two step verification via cell phone. No one is going to swap phone numbers or get burner phones just to make new IDs.
