Ridgid now has an 18V string trimmer, chainsaw, hedge trimmer & (new model) blower.

14" String Trimmer $258 (tool only)
510CFM Blower $258 (tool only)
12" Chainsaw $258 (tool only)
22" Hedge Trimmer $258 (tool only)

All are brushless. There are kits with batteries and chargers as well. I know some people like myself have been waiting for this. Prices are pretty high, but that's to be expected when they are new I suppose. I won't be buying until they are at least $75 less. No lawn mower yet, but considering it's been available in Australia and Europe under the AEG brand name, I'd imagine it's coming soon, but maybe not this year.

Wow. Didn't think we'd see this. Great news. Prices out of the gate aren't terrible.

String trimmer and blower kit isn't a bad price at $518. Get a 4ah battery and charger for free vs buying the two tools seperate. Once this goes on sale it'll sell well

There's an 8" dual battery auger too. Expensive kit though with the two 4ah batteries. https://www.homedepot.ca/product/ridgid ... 1001779829

My buddies brother just got one, apparently it works extremely well. Ice augers arent super cheap to begin with, and cordless tax to $700 seems a wee high. $600 likely wouild have done it.

Ridgid has a history of launching stuff for too much and then it comes down or they discontinue it, like the Jobmax. Fantastic tool, but each head was too much money and rather than drop pricing, they just dropped it.

I'm so P.O'ed about this. I bought a Ryobi 18V trimmer kit in June. I'm invested in Ridgid and have many batteries already, and would have waited rather than buy into another system. I know you can get battery adapters, and I may get one if the Ryobi battery croaks.

A few months ago, I recall reading an RFD thread that had the Makita 13" brushless cordless string trimmer for $89. That was a great price and in all likelihood, it is a better unit than the Ridgid. IMO, the Ridgid trimmer is worth $150 max. Probably the same price with the blower. Add $75-$100 for the 4ah battery and charger.

Was the Makita on clearance or something cause that's like entry level Ryobi prices

Nope, it was this model from this retailer. $99 minus $10 coupon code.

.
I work for a trucking company and go into many Home Depots and I can say they always have a skid or 2 of Ryobi returns on the go in the back. I mentioned it one time and a Ryobi rep happened to be there. He said "People just expect these things to do more than they are capable of. They are great for typical home use". I said "then that seems to be an awful lot of country folk trying to cut 4 acres with your battery mower judging by how many returns are sitting in that corner". I would never buy Ryobi now, and I was really interested in that One+ system, or whatever it is they call it.

They did that with the Megamax, I collected the base and all 3 heads and used them only a handful each

Good future discussion tools lol

I am definitely interested in the 2 trimmers and chainsaw but at the clearance price :)

Prices seem pretty high, hope them come down.
You can get a Ryobi trimmer with battery for around $100 sometimes.

$258 for a grass trimmer? I'm assuming these are high quality and will last 10/20+years

They come with the lifetime service agreement so regardless of how long they last, you won't have to buy another one unless it gets run over by a vehicle or some other reason not covered by the LSA.

Makes sense, I'll watch out for a deal though....maybe worth it around $175 or so

I don’t think you understand they are literally a billion dollar company in Canada. A skid or two of returns is peanuts.

When it is a regular occurrence at multiple stores, it's indicative of a quality problem, not just the odd person here and there thinking it would do more than actuality. Dozens of items from a given store every couple weeks is enough to convince me to look at something else, I don't care how big a company they are or how small a percentage those returns represent. A few Hyundais catch fire and people brand the company as crap and I bet that is a much smaller percentage of unit sales than these Ryobi returns are.

I’m confident you dont understand the sheer numbers of products here, but you do you. A dozen returns over multiple 53 foot trailers of products a week is a rounding error.

Likely as a percentage, all vendors have the same issue. But as you said the percentages don’t matter to you. If they sold Festool and only sold 4 a week and 2 were returned, that’s better to you than the 1-2% of Ryobi returned. Your mind is made up over a few returns you saw. Which now appears to be “dozens” not “1-2 skids per store”

I have been to the Ryobi returns centre a few times in 2022 as I still know folks who work for (and run) TTI Canada. It’s not much from all of Ontario.

Lol, sorry your feelings are hurt over my comments. Yes, my mind is made up, didn't know it was up for being changed by this discussion. We all make purchase decisions based on things we observe first hand and that's all my comments are based on. Perhaps their lawnmower would be fine for my city sized lot, but I fail to believe when their rep said it was all people returning because they were trying to do too much that it was all people with acreage returning them. I also don't know why you think my comments of 1-2 skids or dozens of items is a discrepancy. Perhaps you think only 1 or 2 items go on a skid.

I saw 12 truck driver accidents and now I think all tractor trailer drivers are terrible drivers. You cant change my mind with facts as my feelings trump facts.

This is getting lame, but if you saw repeated accidents from a particular company you would have a pretty low opinion of that company.
