Rim/Tire Size

Check the brake clearance. Most likely the GTI has larger brakes which might not clear the smaller steelies.

OP if selling your car, why not keep it original? You'll likely encounter a hit if 16s werent stock.

16" should be fine as thats my setup for winters now.

Its coming off a jetta so Bolt pattern is fine
16" do clear the calipers and I use 16" for my winter tires.

I'm not keeping the original because I want to keep my nice summer rims or possibly sell them down the road. The car is going to a family member & they dont care about the rims on the car.

It should be fine if you checked it clears the brakes. Only real difference is the tire circumference is slightly smaller and its reasonably thinner. The speedo will be slightly more incorrect in being slightly more optimistic which I guess could be good for lowering the chances of a ticket.
