Sounds like maybe people are not installing properly leading to overheating.
The video doorbell’s battery can overheat when the incorrect screws are used for installation, posing fire and burn hazards. This recall involves Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation), model number 5UM5E5 smart doorbell cameras. Only Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) models with certain serial numbers are included.
"If your doorbell is impacted, it is important that you carefully review the new instructions. Visit Ring’s website to download a new user guide before installing your doorbell or contact Ring Community Support via the link above for additional information.
Note: You do not need to return your device. Simply follow the revised instructions."

Here is a link directly to the government of Canada website: https://www.healthycanadians.gc.ca/reca ... 9r-eng.php
If you have a 2nd generation Ring Video Doorbell you can check the serial number here.
Basically don't install it with the included wood screws, use the security screws. They don't seem to be actually recalling them.

So screws that "come with the light" can be a fire hazzard?
That's awful. It's not fun to get your house on fire.

"A brand of smart doorbell cameras are being recalled in Canada and the US due to a fire hazard.
The affected product is the Ring Video Doorbell 2nd Generation sold between June 2020 and October 2020, with model number 5UM5E5.
In Canada, 8700 units of the product were sold"

Apparently the risk is if the owner mixes up the screws and uses the long screws in the wrong hole so that they penetrate the battery case when tightened.

I posted in the other thread but I think this is a better place for it.
Perhaps a mod can combine them.
