Also, pretty much grew up with them.
For the longest time, I resisted purchasing CD's when they first came out.
My music collection was entirely cassettes.
My first purchase was from a used CD bin - For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (which I already owned in cassette form).
RIP

I was a kid in the 80s, and it seemed pretty hard to see the band when I was old enough in the 90s. I finally got to see them in 2007 (or 08?).

I spun the shit out of 1984 in my youth. Put on the record today and cranked it up.

I had heard he wasn't doing well, but it sucks to lose another amazing musician.

I still remember spending weeks to learn how to play eruption when I was a kid. Rest in power legend.

I remember his admirably equanimous reaction to Billie Eilish being unfamiliar with Van Halen and their music

Apparently he had been battling cancer on and off for almost two decades. I would have thought that DLR would expire before anyone else from that group.
Oh well another icon from my misspent youth gone. He was younger than I am.

RIP
