Saw this deal in the Epic games thread but thought it deserved its own post. Didn't see any other threads so I hope this is not a repost.

If you own Red Dead Redemption Online, the story mode is $4.80 USD, which is a great deal. You can buy it through the Rockstar store.

If you don't own Red Dead Redemption Online, you can buy it through the Epic store, using the holiday coupon for $4.99 USD ($14.99 - $10 coupon), and then you will see the discount on the story mode. You can also follow the instructions on https://slickdeals.net/f/15515932-red-d ... mes-coupon. You can then refund the online version through the Epic store.

I posted the prices in USD since my account is a US one, but it works for Canada too, just do the conversion.

For those of you having issues, see below for things that have worked for others so you dont have to scroll through all the posts.
BBExpress wrote: After purchasing Story Mode, you have to reinstall it through the Rockstar launcher.
To do that:
* Move the game folder from the Epic folder to the Rockstar one (default is "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games", but can also change it in the launcher) and rename it to "Red Dead Redemption 2", this will save you downloading it again
* Delete the ".egstore" folder
* Open Rockstar launcher, and click install
Rebellium wrote: Worked for me. After purchasing the story mode:

1. Rename the RDR folder to "Red Dead Redemption 2" and it will disappear from both epic launcher and the rockstar launcher.
2. Refund RDR online from epic
3. Delete .egstore folder in the RDR installation folder
4. Open rockstar launcher and it'll think RDR isn't installed anymore.
5. Point rockstar launcher to the renamed folder after clicking on install. Make sure your folder is called "Red Dead Redemption 2" and then when choosing a path make sure you pick the parent folder of the RDR installation folder you already have on your pc. E.g.

Game files in -> C:\Games\Red Dead Redemption 2
Folder to pick as install location -> C:\Games

6. The launcher will verify the game and show it as installed.
7. Launch the game from rockstar launcher.

Thread Summary
Update 2021-12-23 (7pm EST): Confirmed that after step 4/5, the payment and receipt have changed since a few days ago. The purchase is now tied to EPIC, it even says so before you hit 'pay now'.
They changed it so the story mode requires both the epic game launcher and rockstar launcher running. So you cannot refund from EGS and continue to launch RDR2 (story mode) from the rockstar launcher alone.

Proof:

If you want the deal while continuing to carry the title on EGS, then carry on without the moving folder / uninstalling / etc (i.e. skip all the steps after step 5).

How to get the deal:

1. Purchase Red Dead Online at the Epic Games Store (https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/)
2. Once purchased, download and install the game (120GB Download, so it could take a while)
3. Launch game and click on Story Mode on the top right corner, then click on Buy Red Dead Redemption Story Mode
4. Rockstar Launcher will redirect to the Rockstar Store to purchase story mode for $4.80 USD ($6.36 CAD)
5. Use a US Zip Code (eg 90210) when purchasing the story mode to avoid taxes. Purchase it via Paypal/Visa/MasterCard

After Purchasing RDR2 Story Mode
6. Rename the RDR folder to "Red Dead Redemption 2" and it will disappear from both epic launcher and the rockstar launcher.
7. Refund RDR online from epic
8. Delete .egstore folder in the RDR installation folder
9. Open rockstar launcher and it'll think RDR isn't installed anymore.

11. The launcher will verify the game and show it as installed.
12. Launch the game from rockstar launcher.

That link didn't say anything about refunding it. It says you need both inline and story installed to have no crashes though.

Did I miss something?

Read the comments on the bottom of the slick deals link. Lots of people commenting they refunded the online through epic and just kept the story mode.

OP your title is a little misleading. It doesn't mention the fact "If you own Red Dead Redemption Online" only. I noticed only after clicked on the link, felt a little cheated and read the body of post

You felt cheated having to first buy RDR2 online first and then refunding it?
It still comes to $4.80 usd in the end, if you can't bother with the instructions, you're cheating yourself.

At this price, hell I'm buying it.

I said I felt cheated initially. I clicked the link the the rockstar page with just the same prices. Instinct dictates you click on the first link you see before you do anything else and I saw no earth shaking deals on the rockstar page

Even keeping Online this is still RDR2 for roughly $15-$16 Cdn.

I'm tempted despite having RDR2 for PS4 already... it does run at 1080p on PS4 but I could run it at 1440p 120hz on my PC...

Is online worth keeping? Does it affect the story mode at all? More contents etc?

Thanks

I'm waiting for my new gaming pc, and my current one cannot run this game. Does that mean I cannot take advantage of this deal?

So if one does not own any of the game, then the math will be

Rdr2 online = 22.49-14=8.49+ tax

Then use the launcher to buy the store mode for 8$+tax

So total is 16ish + tax

Vs epic store 39-14=25

So total 9$-ish saving, right?

Are there legitimate save files for PC? I was around 60% completion on Xbox and don't feel like replaying all of that.

No, RDR2 is actually a prequel to RDR1

All you have to do is install it and run to open Rockstar launcher so you should be able to do that on a potato pc. Worst case you refund online version from epic

Is it worth keeping the online mode?
The Epic game shows 8.49 CAD instead of 4.80 USD :( 4.80 USD ~= 6.21 CAD

Yes. Assuming you don't just want the story mode on Rockstar launcher and you refund the the online version from epic. Then it's just 8 + tax for story mode.
