Anyone know when the next round of good phone plans will come?

I'm trying to reduce my mom's phone bill but both in-person and online customer service has told me their lowest phone plans are $70 for 20GB of data. Rogers rep told me my mom's monthly usage on average is 200MB, so I'm really looking for the bare minimum data plan here, like in the 3-5GB range. But they told me 20GB is the lowest they offer. They said maybe in a month better deals might roll around but does anyone have any insight on their deal trends?

I'm LIVID. It turns out someone called my mom in November and upsold her on a $90 60GB plan. I know my mom should have known better but she's old and we all know how companies will take advantage of old ignorant people. Even the Rogers rep was like, "I'm going to be honest, her data usage is extremely low and I don't know why she was even offered 60GB." I appreciated his honesty there, but still, the cheapest anyone could offer was $70 for 20GB.

Any help would be appreciated. And I told my mom do not negotiate a phone plan without my help.

If your mom didn’t get a new phone, she is not on a contract. Even if she was on contract, it is tied to a phone and you can change the price plan

Is there any reason why she is not part of your family plan?

They usually charge 70$ for the first member and offer discounts for each additional member of the family plan. The data is all pooled together

Why not get her into some prepaid plan like $25 with the cheaper brands like koido, public mobile, freedom or chatr etc ??
That way she gets to pay small/fixed anount per month of service and doesn’t need to worry about being upsold every now and then?

public mobile. $35 at 4G speed getting 3G data, unlimited canada wide calling.

There is no such a thing of family plan anymore. Nowadays only it means that people are ripped off together. So just do it individually.

your best and probably cheapest bet would be the budget carriers public mobile, lucky, chatr, then you have random ones like pc mobility, 711, etc
maybe add her to your account as seems that the way they give discounts

Question for you, your mother has a phone financing right now? Or she’s month 2 month?

Zoomer has a plan for 1GB, $27/month. Comes with $100 bill credit and another $50 if you use a referral link to sign up. And a free phone!

You are locked into a 2-year contract though, works out to $17/month if you value the phone at $100. Zoomer uses the Rogers network.

Hi there - I noticed your message about your mom needing an affordable plan.

My message is a little long - I apologize.

Have you heard about
TELUS OFFERING OLDER PEOPLE a good cellphone plan ? Im not sure how old your mom is ..maybe shes not old enough )...but seniors get a really awesome deal with telus. 60 years and up.
Last I heard it was 26.00 or 27.00 a month with
3 gb data & unlimited talkbtext Canada wide& a refurbished phone if needed or they can buy a new phone.
It's a good deal and worth looking into for people over 60yrs! Wish I could get it!! Smiling Face With Open Mouth

Also didn't crtc say : affordable cellphone plans must be offered by the big 3?
35.00 talk text canada wide unlimited 1gb ?
plans are supposed to be available from the BIG 3 ?
Each of them have to provide basic cell phone plans that are affordable for seniors and low income people. It should be lower.

I think rogers offers low cost internet packages to low income people and seniors.
Connected for success.
It's really amazing.
Starting at 9.99 up to 35.00 for the big internet pkg.
I Wish rogers would do the same for ""cell phones / plans"" for the low income people, and seniors, disabled.

Crtc said You have to ask - rogers bell telus might not want to tell you about it....dig deep ... don't take no for an answer from bell Telus Rogers if you enquire about the 35.00 plans. ..mention the crtc had said low cost affordabe plans would be available & theyre suppose to tell us about them. You can call crtc or tweet them - they were quite nice in giving me the details of what the plans should offer or cover.

Another low cost option might be:

Fongo ( office is in waterloo ontario ) offers A FREE WIFI CALLING APP.
FONGO offers rogers resold data at a lower price...
starting at 9.99 300mb then 19.99 2gb ...it goes up 5gb 35.00? 10gb... maybe higher gb available.
If you run low on the monthly data... before your monthly data renews .. top up is 1 gb at 10.00 plus tax.
I run out ...I add 1 gb data I spend 10.00 more or
I use wifi calling til My 2 gb data renews.
It's Unlimited talk text Canada wide....it's a free wifi calling app.
You do not need to buy data if you don't want to. You might have to buy texting 2.00 a month.

It's possible to use it for FREE if you don't mind using wifi to make or get calls text messages etc Canada wide -
Please review& study the details on the FONGO website.
If you decide to try it & have any questions feel free to message me. I've used fongo for many years.
Be aware... it's all SELF SERVE... emailing texting back and forth tweeting facebooking them requests, sending in support request works, with techs..who are only there monday to friday til 4pm.

Rogers Sim cards are sent to new customers ( they were free before)
The fongo calling app has to be loaded on your cell phone.
I paid a 1 time fee 7.99 for advertisement removal forever. It's worth it! Glad I did.

I saved a huge amount of $$$$ by using fongo.
It's not always perfect - maybe it's my phone my apartment building cell towers or elevator interference.
I'm getting A lot of noise on my data calls...and wifi.
I use a Samsung a21 cell phone.I think this cell phone is the problem.
I sound muffled on calls, in voice messages I left someone..i played it back to check the quality...its terrible quality, a law office said they can't hear me, cant understand what im saying when I called them locally on wifi.
I need an iPhone asap.
I would love to know how to fix this noise- the distorted weird sounding calls only from my end..when I speak. Samsung tested wifi it showed problems with connecting to wifi. The volume is strange on this phone.
If I use wifi data ..to call the nurse in Edmonton she says she can't understand me...it's not clear.
Maybe Samsung apps that I don't want on this phone are interfering? Running in the background? I force stop a lot of apps & I only allow fongo on data, and emergency alerts.
I hope it's this samsung a21 cell phone causing the problems... not fongo causing the problems.

I'm searching for a cheap bell Canada data text talk plan - friend needs data talk text to Canada+ USA.
He's paying a huge chunk to bell for a bit of data 3-5gb unlimited talk text 100.00 month.
He isn't into negotiating, discounts, or corporate rates he probably qualifies for.

Check your work, your staff association for a cell phone company discount offered to staff employees, usually human resources has the info, your groups your organizations you belong to...may have a good discount or plan you qualify for.... engineers, accountants, city employees, colleges, gov staff, carp, teachers, unions, canadiantire staff, students, universities .... they have the BEST cellphone DEALS EVER for staff students ..I happen to see for uofw 19.99 talk text the works cell plans unlimited big data cellphones etc might cover alumni ) ...healthcare staff,..many different categories groups colleges universites associations organizations may have a corporate discount with 1 or some of the big 3..telus bell rogers.. search it out.

The big 3 should offer low income +seniors + disabled a really low cost plan under 26.00 a month data unlimitedtalk text voice mail many features ...like they do for colleges +Universities...many other places.

Sorry for my long message! Grinning Face

Looks like you need to be collecting GIS to qualify for the Telus plan for seniors. There are some other deals worth looking at to see if your mom might qualify for (low income, disabilities) if she does not qualify for the seniors plan. The others appear to be for internet only though.

But it doesn't sound like you need a good plan. You just need a non-rip-off plan. In that case, go to Public Mobile and choose $25/1GB.

Doesn't really count as a plan, but regular plans get a $25 discount per line per month after the first one.

Eh. I've been using VoIP for nearly 2 decades apparently. It's fine for a secondary line, but especially for someone that isn't tech literate, this is a terrible idea.

Even with a SIM card, having to explain to someone to use "something called Fongo" vs "the phone looking button" can be problematic. Plus IDK how the wireless division handles numbers but if they're VoIP numbers, quite a number of 2FA services won't work with it.

If it's a secondary line? Go for it.
But as a primary line I would never recommend this for anyone, especially if they're not well versed in tech.
Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.
