Rogers Gigabit Internet Technical Discussion

** TIP for New Subscribers ** - After plugging the modem for the first time wait 72hours for the latest FW to get pushed to your Modem. Reboot ( Unplug / Wait 2min / Replug ) then report back your issues

So looks like many people are getting the Crazy deal of $99 for Gigabit + Digital Cable VIP.

Starting this thread to talk about the technical side of the Gigabit

So My modem when connected directly is showing close 900Mbps down and 35mbps up - Wired

My router is fairly new Asus RT-87U and even with stock firmware as well Merlin is not going pass 400Mbps - wired

What routers are you guys using with Gigabit Internet ?

As per small net builder i should be getting close to 800Mbps down with this router. I am using Cat6 and Cat5e

Also checked these settings

I have a crappy Linksys ea2700, and I just switched to the Gigabit plan today myself.

I need some recommendations for a good router. Router is in the basement, will be connecting via WiFi.

What do you guys suggest?

What deal is there, anyone have a link for this $99 deal? Is it ON only, or all over Canada?

I have 500u and I get 350-400 on wifi. I'm running a R7000 with Merlin and my laptop has a 7260AC card.

I'm on this too. Some guidance for anyone using pfSense?

Direct to the Rogers modem, I'm near 900 Mbps. However, wired through a simple Gigabit switch and pfSense box (with 1000Mbps ports), the max I'm hitting is roughly 600 Mbps.

Is that variance typical, even though each component is capable of Gigabit speeds? Is there really anything one can do short of connecting direct to the Rogers box to cover the variance? (not that 600 is something to cry about! LOL)

Do you absolutely need to be a new customer to qualify for the gigabit pricing?

Has anyone done any tests with the modem/router provided by Rogers? I posted a technical note about using Gigabit speeds on the deals thread. Your biggest problem will be NAT support and if your PC can drive the network interface close to gigabit speeds. I am receiving the Gig Rocket Modem soon and I can post my findings.

Check the thread, people are getting it without being a new customer.

Wired direct to Rogers modem, using late 2012 iMac 820Mbps. Got excited and went bridge mode without testing wifi
Bridged to Nighthawk R7000 wired 650 Mbps
Wifi 2.4 150 Mbps
Wifi 5.0 325 Mbps

What are you guys getting?

Damn, no gigabit in my area (supposedly - although my postal code qualifies), only got a measly $20 / month reduction in my bill.
