Rogers launches Canada's first commercially available 5G Standalone Network

https://financialpost.com/globe-newswir ... ne-network

Like I did try to warn many times, Bell and Telus don't have real 5G networks.

Now Rogers has lauched the only Standalone Network in Canada. I don't subscribe to Rogers, neither I want or need 5G. But, calling Bell or Telus network '5G' is marketing bullshit.

In the end, customers aren't likely to notice a difference between the two. Telus/Bell & Rogers have flip-flopped on tests showing overall network quality and speed since 5G availability was announced.

At this point you're just being pedantic.

My friend tried to bet me he actually has 5G on Rogers. LOL

True, and you should agree that they will not notice a diffrence between 4G and 5G.

To me, I consider Telus/Bell network nothing more than a 4G+ network. When 5G was first announced, it was supposed to offer gigabit speeds and near fibre ping times (1-2 ms). Essentially, 5G would eventually replace home broadband connections, giving fibre speeds anywhere. I think companies (hardware and service providers alike) where eager to get on the 5G bandwagon, but clearly, technology and infrastructure wasn’t ready yet. I also see no difference between LTE and 5G on my iPhone 12 Pro on Telus in midtown Toronto.

Until just recently, this was pretty much the case for every carrier in North America. The spectrum wasn't in use yet. The 3500mhz spectrum auction only happened here in July of last year

so instead of giving us a better deal on pricing they would rather build expensive networks that most features are out of reach or require high end phones to achieve full results, good to know they care about lining their pockets with our hard earned money

What is 5G really mean? Its all marketing. Backhaul to cell towers need to be improved big time. No point to call it 5G, if you barely deliver 150-300mbit download and upload never seen more than 50mbit max.

Even existing LTE network dont touch the speeds LTE is suppose to deliver.

For me give me 100mbit up/down and ill be happy. Upload is still horrible on any technology they claim.

marketing and PRICE, you make the companies RICHER by using the latest and greatest devices and standards, just to be an early adopter for bragging rights, is it really worth it on your checkbook to have this kind of bragging rights?
