Roofing and home Insurance

After a storm i noticed some curled shingles. Also 1 shingle missing on other side. Any idea how much a repair will be? Also, should i go through home insurance ? My understanding is that it may impact my rates in the future.

How old is the roof? It looks like regular 3 tab shingles.

if its less than 10 shingles, pay out of pocket, if its more or your ply wood is exposed, go insurance

my next door went with a cheap door to door roofer and one day after a huge wind and rain storm his entire shingles came off, like literally all of them gone, a big chunk of em in my backyard

For the last few years i have heard of more shingle issues than in past years, may be coincidence or perhaps getting more windy rain storms due to (dare i say it) global warming. I've never had issues at my place or neighbourhood, however my buddy in Ajax for what seems every few years has a few shingles come off. He just blames it on the particular area and very high winds not installation or shingle quality, he's likely right.

Your roof looks fairly good other than the missing shingles. I would get a price to fix and then make a decision on paying out of pocket or insurance. I'd likely go out of pocket myself, but bridge that divide once you get the facts on price to see what you are looking at.

Thanks
Good pics -- I hv diligently looked at my roofs over the last decade as well... in my opinion, have it repaired out of pocket- usually storms will create such havoc that it's inevitable that one or two or even 5 blows away... storms >80km/h, you need to go out and check just to be "safe".... my rule of thumb usually for myself. is this a storm of yesterday?

EDIT (I re-viewed your pic) -- you have around 15-20 shingles that blew off - which equates to around 6-7 tabs to be replaced - definitely have it repaired and ignore my "if it's only one shingle that blew off" comment below - but I’m not removing it just for future reference for others who need inputs)... definitely just have it repaired for now if <10yrs builders shingles is what you have, replaced if >15yrs... if repair, don't involve insurance, it'll cost $400 max for all those... if you were affected by the barrie tornado, consider yourself lucky it's just those shingles... ☺︎ glad to see you’re safe....

sometimes you can try to get away not repairing it for now (if it's only one shingle) by ensuring that underneath that shingle that blew off, there's no nail that was used to shingle the lower layers nor is there a gap underneath where the plywoods were connected (usually not going to happen anyway unless you are that unfortunate)... in those cases, you MAY want to delay for repairs since it's just one or two shingles... HOWEVER, i caveat again that you need to make sure that the shingle that blew off is not the one protecting a gap or a nail below /underneath it...

you can call for repairs for $200-$400 depending on how/how quick you want them to reply. Some handyman walking around the neighborhood can prolly do it for $100 if you're lucky to see one... PERSONALLY, i wont have insurance involved for those amounts (my deductible is $1000 anyway, planning to up it to $2000 next yr truth be told)

finally, if roof is <10yrs, i would just repair, if >15yrs on those 3 tab ones = think of replacing in the near term (eg within 1-2 yrs)... that's my 2c... but for your specific case now, no, don't involve insurance and just pay out of pocket for a quick repair...

hope this helps
PS I inserted an edit after re-viewing and zooming in your roof pics and counted all the shingles missing... definitely just repair if <10yr old builders roof... no need to get insurance involved either way (Eg repair or replace)

Thanks for all the responses. Damage is 400. Ended up paying on my own. Dont want to mess with home insurance for now.
