routers with parental control

Does anyone have any recommendation for routers with parental control? While it appears easy to just take the devices away from your kids, but it's simply not that easy.

I'm thinking of the Synology Rt2600AC or RT6600AX.

Any other suggestions? Max budget is $500.

I want to limit time online. My Linksys currently only allows a timed schedule. The idea is to hopefully create a sense of responsibility by allowing 90 minutes of usage at his own terms. Similar to this screen:

What's the device? Perhaps parental controls on the device itself could be of use.

If they are using iPads or Apple devices, this can be accomplished using the Screen Time feature.

But it will be really hard to limit the time to a fixed limit. That has to be done by the operating system. A router cannot control how long you use Chrome for.

If you want to limit time of day, that is a lot easier. You can set an hour from 5 - 6 pm etc.

Synology software is amazing. It can be done manually, but it will require skills and a DNS server like pi-hole. Not sure if other routers offer this.

The RT2600AC is based on the same board as the R7800 and so performs very well.

Someone I know tried this on IOS devices using parental controls, and it almost immediately glitched and had the kids locked up during times they were supposed to have access. To resolve the issue, the time restrictions had to be removed completely. Needless to say, it didn't get turned back on after that mess. I was quite surprised to see how glitchy the IOS controls were.

Routers flashed with Gargoyle custom firmware allow very detailed control over internet usage ( bandwidth per ip/mac address ).
https://www.gargoyle-router.com/

used router which can be flashed with gargoyle can be bought for less than $60.

I would try and find a 1st generation Disney Circle on Kijiji. I have seen them as low as $20-$25.
The newer versions now want a monthly fee to run.

I have had mine running for 5 years and it's great for kid control.

Tons of routers have that ... and you can set times when it can be blocked .... and you can set individual devices that have certain timeslots that can access

TP Link should have, as normal setting.

Step3. Go to [ Parental Controls] > [Time Scheduling] or [AiProtection]> [Parental Controls] > [Time Scheduling]
2022/3: BOC raised 10 times and MCAP raised its prime next day.
2017,2018: BOC raised rates 5 times and MCAP raised its prime next day each time.
2020: BOC dropped rates 3 times and MCAP waited to drop its prime to include all 3 drops.

I think the OP wanted an overall time limit per day, not a schedule. Read the 4th post here. Schedules are now typical in routers but time limit per day is tricky to implement.

Reviving an old thread, as I'm looking for a solution.

In the house we have multiple devices Android/iOS smartphones. Apple TV, FireTV stick, Laptops (Mac & Windows). Apple iPads.

Is there any way of limiting internet access on the network for all devices, unless they enter a parental password.

Why don't you guys just use NextDNS? It filters out all the crap from the internet at the DNS level. No fancy hardware required and it's completely free. Gets rid of ads also.

This thread is about limiting time, not filtering.
