Running out of time: Family planning, EI, Covid-19 and few jobs.

How are people planning kids with everything going on?

Got laid off. Unable to find work to qualify for EI maternity but running out of time at age 40.

Need remote work due to health reasons and live in Alberta with the highest per capita cases of Covid-19.

Feels like our family plans are completely out of our control and there's no responsible way to have one more.

Should we just give up the idea we can have one more?

Any brainstorming ideas are appreciated.

You can't control everything but if you don't have enough income for another child then maybe think of an alternative plan.

1) Put your time towards that children that you already have.
2) Get a dog or some other pet.
3) Adopt a child. If you adopt a child in 2 years maybe look for a child who is at least 2 years old.
4) Save your money and spend it on your family (new computer, TV, tablet, a nice meal out somewhere, dessert at a restaurant, etc).

We can't tell you if it's a good idea to give up on the idea of having another child. We don't know your situation and what it is that you want. I'd suggest to sit down and talk it over with your significant other and figure out what is ideal for your family.

40's getting a bit old to have another kid especially without a good financial outlook. I wish I did it 10 years prior.
