Samsung 2433BW monitor corrupted firmware / OSD

Image

Got a Samsung 2433BW monitor, was working fine until few days ago. Now has trouble turning back on when PC goes to sleep. I had to unplug the power cord and then plug it in to get it back on, the power button on the side panel stops working intermittently. The onscreen OSD is corrupted / garbled, can't get in to view or change any settings.

Seems as if it's plagued by a software issue, not hardware. Does anyone know how to reset the firmware or flash a new one? Old monitor, but works good and it's 1920x1200 resolution. Would like to save it if I can.

there is always a reset all menu item in there. Try that first

Considering the age, I would suspect the logic board has succumb to a failing component somewhere, or maybe just bit rot. Those screens were from around the time of the capacitor plague so would not be shocking.

There should be a factory reset/diagnostic menu, it can usually be accessed via a specific key sequence. Also try resetting defaults through the OSD if you can make it out.

Flashing firmware cannot be done over video cable, only some monitors with USB hubs support it. Otherwise it can only be done at the factory or if you have theadvanced electronics knowledge to hook into the right chip and reprogram it.

If you do a reset and there's no change, take it apart and look for swollen capacitors.
If you find any bad capacitors, they need to be changed.

It seems that this may be an issue with these monitors.
There's a company that has a "repair kit" and it includes a soldering iron and solder sucker as an option. $11 for the capacitors only:
