[Fido] Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant for $375.28 PREPAID-Bell/Rogers/Fido! (Oct 23/24 ONLY)

NOTE: This is a confirmed deal and its legal. Please see below.

The Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant has the same specs as the Iphone 4 and a better graphics chip and GPS chip. Get it for $390 + tx, unlock it for free, and use it on Bell, Rogers, Fido, Telus, or Virgin.

1. Buy this deal on October 24: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/sam ... ae1985en02
2. Get the Smartphone 50 plan on a 3 year contract. Use a Quebec billing address on the contract. Any address will do- as you will be picking up your phone today at the store. Pay activation fee of $35 on first invoice, and get a free $50 BestBuy gift card.
3. Cancel your service after 3 weeks but pay the first entire month for the plan. Because of Quebec's Bill 60 (effective June 30), the cancellation fee will be ($350/36)x35=$340.28, no matter where in Canada you live.

Total cost $35 (activation)-$50 (gift card)+50 (first month plan) +$340.28 (cancellation fee)=375.28 +tx ($442)

UPDATE: This is a confirmed deal and it is legal. Furthermore, it has been discussed and confirmed numerous times on HoFo by official Fido and Bell agents. Here are only two of the many links:

These phones will not work with WIND/Mobilicity.

Do you have to be a Quebec resident or just Quebec shopper to get this deal?
I assume you need to have a Quebec address.

This will not work on Videotron. It does not have the AWS spectrum.

Just giving a Quebec billing address isn't going to work. You actually need the contract to be subject to the laws of Quebec - i.e. signed in Quebec.

No- but this is the real deal. I'm an on-call business and technology expert sometimes appearing on CTV and Global. I know Bill 60 inside out.

Wrong. The contract terms are determined by the address you give on the contract, not on your physical location at the time the contract is signed.

How is the DECF calculated with Bill 60? Since there are no "discounts" for a data add-on, would you have to pay the full amount of the remaining months of your contract?

No activation fee or SAF. Taxes on plan price are already in the equation.

The phone supports these frequencies:

Cellular: GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, UMTS1900, UMTS2100
Data: CSD, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA

Videotron works on 1700/2100. This phone only has 2100.

You should be able to buy this at ANY BB. You need to use a Quebec address on the contract.

I'm sorry but how are you supposed to use it on Fido/Rogers. Their network is CDMA while the phone is GSM. Is there something I'm missing?

The only Galaxy S that would work both on Bell and Rogers would be the I9000 which is quadband.

The following example illustrates how to calculate the termination fee:

At the conclusion of a contract for cellular service for a period of 36 months, you get a free cell phone worth $ 350. The hardware subsidy is therefore equivalent to $350. The 22nd month, you cancel the contract. To determine the maximum cancellation fee, you should use the following formula:

Maximum compensation for termination = [hardware subsidy] - [hardware subsidy x number of months elapsed fully ÷ duration of the contract].

$ 350 - ($ 350 x 22 ÷ 36), $ 350 - $ 213.89 = $ 136.11. So you could pay compensation to the merchant that can not be greater than $ 136.11.

So this will work with every phone as long as the address on contract is a Quebec address, correct?
