[Samsung] Samsung Galaxy A50 ($399) and Galaxy A70 ($499)

Samsung is offering the A50 for $399.99 (regular is $449.99) and the A70 for $499.99 (regular is $629.99) until January 6th.

Been on the hunt for a good mid-range phone and am left deciding between these 2 phones (my main concern is the size of the A70).

Not sure what Samsung typically does for boxing day.

At these prices, have you looked at the older OnePlus phones?

If you want the A70, buy it at Staples with the $75 off coupon

https://www.staples.ca/products/2946516 ... -pie-black
http://forums.redflagdeals.com/staples- ... e-2340273/

(although you do need a filler item to make it over $500)

edit: I would go for the A70. My friend had the A50 and it seemed to lag a bit sometimes. He was much happier with the A70
RFD is not just about saving money, it's about the thrill of the hunt and getting the stuff I want without paying full price like Joe Shmoe did.
This applies to everyday items as well as high end items that I don't really need.

I picked A70 as well ...tested A50 for two days .. A70 has a taste of Note 10+ to it .... huge bright display ... this is my Secondry phone and I am happy with it...

A50 is a excellent phone for the price right now heavily discounted on many carriers.. it uses a basic processor to cut costs .. but build quality display n weight management of the device is superb ...will give user a S9+ S10+ feel ... i noticed v few times the software had some glitches .. but those glitches are minimal and can be ignored nothing so serious ...Samsung will fix them with future software updates

Advantages of getting A70 is the Super Quick Charger, bigger display, 4500mah battery , Snapdragon processor , 128gb etc

A51 and A71 has launched this week with Note 10+ like display notch ... they are going to kill the Chinese competition specially in Asia

With the price savings from Staples ($75 off) I think the A70 is the obvious choice as it's the better phone all around. The only concern still is the phone size, coming from a smaller phone the A70 seems massive in comparison

For guys, the problem with a big phone is not so much using it, but how do you carry the sucker?

Had experience work owning an A5 2017 model. It seems like the A series is the mid-range line and that comes with only one OS upgrade. I expect the A50 & A70 will get the Android Q upgrade and nothing else after.

Android 10 with Samsung UI 2.0 upgrade would be enough for next 5years of App Support ... users will not feel a need

The beauty of A50 and A70 is these phones are not wider like say Note or IPh X series

The weight management of the device is well engineered and it makes the device easy to use .. the massive Super Amoled HD display is worth to spend in

Thanks OP. Ordered from Staples with $75 off $500 code. Had to add a $1 filler but got the A70 phone for $481 after tax which I think is pretty good.

I would gop for A70, mainly because the CPU in A75 is slightly better in every ways

A70 is powered by Snapdragon 675 which is custom A75*2 + A55*6
A50 is powered by Exynos 9610 which is A73*4 + A53*4

other specs look almost identical

Never mind, found it 71428

$488 all in
Picked up a pack of printer paper for $7
$499 + $7 - $75 (71428) = $488.14

$75 bucks off makes it a even better deal

Also used ebates for another 3%

My thoughts on the A70 . I went from an Essential PH-1 to the Samsung 'cause I wanted larger screen and bigger battery

The Samsung is slower on updates for sure. I'm sad it is still running Android 9 with December 2019 security patch. I got spoiled by immediate updates on the Essential. However, the Samsung is set to receive Android 10 and One UI 2.0 in April of 2020 so that's something.

I'm not a gamer, in light of that the Samsung seems just as speedy as the Essential even though the Samsung has a slightly lower Antutu score (199K).

I love having a headphone jack again. The screen is bright and clear. Reception with Rogers in downtown Toronto has been great. Battery life on the Samsung is incredible with the 4500 mAh battery in there. I run WhatsApp , loads of other stuff, stream via bluetooth, watch videos and still can't kill it by end of day.

Also has an FM radio tuner that doesn't use your data . It works for me with the NextRadio app. Great for CBC in the morning to work.

The Samsung A70 is definitely one of the nicer phones I've had. Very satisfied with it so far.

Forgot to mention cameras. I'm not a photo guy either but A70 does seem better than Essential here too. I really appreciate the wide angle option and pictures are good enough for my social media uses.

If you want some of the neat gesture navigation that's coming with Android 10 you can add it now with Samsung's official app

When I need an IR blaster I just plug this one into the USB C port, works beautifully

I bought my plastic screen protector and got it applied at Samsung store in Toronto Eaton Centre. My heavy duty case is from Amazon
