I have the R1280T and I'm tempted to get another pair at this price! They sound great for the TV and would be good as computer speakers.

Need a new set of speakers for my PC (old logitech finally bit the bullet) but do these suffer from a lack of an active sub? I don't need pounding bass (kids asleep when I am on the PC anyway) but if I want to crank it up on a good racing game will it give me a similar experience to a set of computer speakers with an active sub?

I'm wondering if I have a 7.1 sound card if I can plug these in along side the z623 speakers I have currently and use them as LR and the Z623s as LR rear.

Saw this deal this morning. Been waiting some time for the price to be "right". :)

Damn, just grabbed some M-Audio AV32's from Visions... wondering if I should return them and get these.

Hmm, I don't think it'll beat speakers with an active sub. You'd be able to hear the bass from the 4" drivers, but it won't shake anything unfortunately (the very low end is missing). I think that if you're used to having an active sub, you may feel that the bass is lacking. It is capable of being very loud and still sounds balanced though.

Which pair of speakers is of better value? I've been using Headrush Icon as TV speakers after my last bookshelf speakers died... :s

Edit: Went with r1280t as a) I don't *need* bluetooth, b) I don't listen to high volume and c) I kinda like the r1280t's sound better than r1700bt in the youtube comparisons...

I've been hoping these would drop in price and today they are a healthy 30% off. The 2nd one linked has a bit more power and is bluetooth so less/no wires.

Edifier R1280T Powered Bookshelf Speakers, 2.0 Active Near Field Monitors - 4" Studio Monitor Speaker - Wooden Enclosure - 42 Watt RMS

Edifier R1700BT Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers - Active Near-field Studio Monitors - Powered Speakers 2.0 Setup Wooden Enclosure - 66w RMS
Crap...just when I thought I spent enough money this weekend. The 1700s are tempting. They have solid clean bass and I've used them in large rooms no problem. Extremely tempting as desktop pc speakers.

I have the R1280DB which is the same as the R1280T but mine have Bluetooth as well. Great little speakers for the money, they're attached to a TV in a small room and they certainly well fill it with great sound. I'm completely happy with them.

Thanks OP! Had the 1280s before, and for the same price upgraded to the 1700s now!

That's the right call re 1280s - i personally opted for the 1700s this time just to add some more volume potential.
